What is known about the death of Pavel Petrichenko

Petrichenko’s death was reported by his sister Marina.

“Today in the Donetsk region, my brother, sergeant of the 59th brigade Pavel Petrichenko, died during a combat mission. Please do not disturb our family for a while. We will inform you about the place and time of farewell later,” she wrote.

Volunteer Lachenkov also reported the death of a soldier.

“Today, a few hours ago, Ukraine lost a man who was a moral authority and guideline for me. A man who changed this country and had to change further, even more. There are very few such people, he died as a warrior – on the battlefield. Pasha Petrichenko, on the shield Pain, tears, memory,” he wrote.

Who was Pavel Petrichenko

Before the full-scale war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, the man worked as a project manager and was a participant in public initiatives. And shortly before February 24, 2022, Petrichenko became the head of headquarters of the new party of Sergei Pritula.

At first he volunteered, and in April of the same year the man went to defend Ukraine at the front.

“I wanted to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine back in early February. I didn’t want to volunteer, frankly speaking. Because, firstly, I didn’t have any experience in this. Secondly, I didn’t fight from 2014 to 2022, and it was what a moral conviction that now is my time to go to war,” Petrichenko said in an interview.

“I even got ready, bought some basic set of things. Because I understood that when a large mobilization began, there would 100% be problems with this, because it is difficult to dress many people at once. But due to the way events developed, I was delayed in Kyiv,” he added.

The man served in the 59th separate motorized infantry brigade named after Yakov Handzyuk. Petrichenko was an aerial reconnaissance officer.

He flew a drone to conduct aerial reconnaissance of enemy positions and adjusted fire on the occupiers.

“If it weren’t for the war, I would never have become a military man. I’m 30 years old, I have a higher education – not military, and starting now in the army as a simple soldier, following orders, even correct ones, would not satisfy me,” – Petrichenko said in an interview in the summer of 2022.

On March 29 of this year, Petrichenko publicly spoke about how important it is to pay attention to the gambling business in Ukraine and its consequences. He created a petition on the website of the Office of the President to limit the operation of online casinos. Within a few hours she had collected the required number of signatures.

“This is a huge problem. As I note in the petition, the military finds itself in stressful conditions, in a difficult situation – war, shelling, battles. And the phone becomes the only consolation, quick access to entertainment, which can be addictive. I am a sergeant, I work with my personal composition,” Petrichenko said at the end of March.

“Personally, this is not the case in my unit; I am concerned about this issue at the national level. We are monitoring this, working with people, understanding what is on their mind, what their psychological state is,” he added.

Already on April 2, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky held a meeting with security forces to tighten control over online casinos in Ukraine.

The activist, volunteer and military man not only defended Ukraine at the front. He fought against gambling addiction, which harmed soldiers and civilians.

Ukrainians’ reaction to the death of Petrichenko

Bloggers and Telegram channels began writing about the death of a soldier several hours before the official release of information. However, no one named the person who will return home “on the shield”.

In particular, activist Sternenko wrote that “at such moments you want to become an atheist.”

And the writer Lear wrote that he could not believe what happened.

Also, before the release of official information, activist Karas spoke out. He also did not name names. But he made it clear that this was a big loss.

“To die in battle for the Motherland is the highest valor and honor. There will never be a shame. There will be glory forever. Some living people should envy such dead. Coats of arms, not brands. BRs, not banknotes,” wrote Karas.

“Glory to the Cossack. May we rest in peace. Open the gates of heaven. We are not slaves – we forge the destiny of our own country. That’s why at such a high price,” he added.

Later, when Petrichenko’s death was confirmed, Ukrainians did not hide their sadness. In the comments they write:
