HOUSTON (AP) – No. 1 Houston has overtaken purdue for teh top spot in the latest Associated Press Top 25 men’s college basketball poll, released Monday.The Cougars received 28 of 63 first-place votes, while Purdue garnered 23. This marks Houston’s first time at No. 1 this season and the program’s second time ever reaching the pinnacle of the AP poll.
The shift at the top comes after Purdue suffered a loss to Wisconsin, while Houston continued its undefeated start. The poll reflects the early-season volatility in college basketball, with several teams experiencing meaningful movement. Florida dropped seven places to No. 10, St. John’s fell eight spots to No. 13, and Kansas slid six positions to No.25.
The Southeastern Conference,Big Ten,and Big 12 each boast six ranked teams,collectively representing 72% of the poll. The ACC and Big East each have three teams ranked, and the West Coast Conference is represented by No. 19 Gonzaga. Both the Big 12 and SEC have three teams in the top 10.
Elsewhere in the rankings, Arkansas is at No.14. Indiana, after strong early-season wins against Alabama A&M and Marquette, is on the cusp of entering the poll and is being closely watched.
