Syrian Actress Mona Wasef Named “Ambassador of Peace” by World Human Rights Organization
Damascus, Syria – February 9, 2025 – Celebrated Syrian actress Mona Wasef has been awarded the prestigious title of “Ambassador of peace in the World” by the World Human Rights Organization, recognizing her decades-long contribution to Syrian and Arab drama, and her embodiment of humanitarian values. The honor was bestowed during a ceremony held yesterday evening in Syria, celebrating the event known as “Syria Al-Amal” (Syria of Hope).
Wasef, known for her powerful performances and unwavering dedication to her craft, expressed deep pride in receiving the title. She spoke eloquently about her diverse heritage – a Christian mother and a Sunni Kurdish father – which she believes has broadened her viewpoint on life and fostered a deep connection to her homeland.
“For me,the country is like a mother who cannot be abandoned or hated,” Wasef stated, emphasizing that true patriotism extends beyond mere words. “Love alone is not enough, it must be associated with giving and sacrifice.Honoring the homeland is a duty, just as God honored the mother, as true affiliation is not based on slogans, but on action and sincerity.”
The ceremony was marked by a particularly moving moment when Syria’s Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, hind Qabbat, embraced Wasef and kissed her hands – a gesture reflecting the profound respect and affection Syrians hold for the actress.
In post-ceremony statements, Wasef reiterated her commitment to peace, stressing the urgent need for safety and security for the Syrian people after years of devastating conflict. “The value of peace is not measured by slogans, but by its daily commitment that enhances the spirit of humanity, and spreads the values of love and tolerance everywhere,” she said.
Wasef also voiced her concern about the dangers of silence, particularly its impact on children affected by war. “My greatest fear is that silence turns into a way to escape,” she explained, “The moast severe manifestations of that silence appear in the eyes of children when they are extracted from their families or are deprived of their simplest needs.” She views the “Ambassador of Peace” title not as a culmination of her career, but as a renewed responsibility to continue advocating for a better future.
Reflecting on her artistic journey, Wasef shared that her enduring connection with fans stems from her genuine love for acting. While initially drawn to the allure of fame, she quickly realized that lasting success lies in earning respect through meaningful work and leaving a positive impact on the world.
