PASOK elections: How will the debate take place – What are the candidates proposing? – 2024-09-20 13:17:57

written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

EDEKAP examines the rules of the debate between the candidates for president of the PASOK with the participation of their representatives. The subject of their discussion was the proposal of Nikos Androulakis for a debate of a different type than the previous ones. Without parallel monologues of a specific duration, but with open dialogue.

The Androulakis proposal

This proposal, for a telefight with different termscame like a bolt of lightning and gives special interest to internal party developments. The reason is that something similar has never happened before, neither in PaSoK nor in Greece in general.

Free dialogue between candidates takes place in European states. If the staffs of the candidates agree to this proposal, then we will be talking about an original telefight that sets new rules for conducting debates and takes the specific process one step further.

What are other candidates proposing?

The staff of Haris Doukas emphasize that the Mayor of Athens is in favor of an open discussion with free dialogue, as long as rules are introduced, so that a solution can be found. They also ask for equal participation of all candidates, as there are six in number.

Pavlos Geroulanos is also in favor. He welcomes the initiative. It is something he wanted, as his close associate points out, there is a political culture, the conditions are ready for such a thing and it will serve.

On the same wavelength and Anna Diamantopoulou who has repeatedly requested the debate. In fact, for two weeks now she has been emphasizing that whatever she has planned for the day of the telefight, she will cancel it in order to be present and present her proposals for the following day. She asks the same from her co-candidates, so that this opportunity for an open discussion between them is not lost.

Michalis Katrinis has no objection as he states. He agrees with the proposal and wants the free dialogue to take place.

Nadia Giannakopoulou goes a step further, initially agreeing with the free dialogue and with the European model but also with the American one, as this way there will be a real dialogue.

When will the debate of the candidates in PaSoK take place?

Everything shows that the holding of a prototype for the Greek data debate is just around the corner. With the candidates having no substantial disagreements with each other. The only thing that remains to be discussed is its date, with September 24th currently appearing to be the most prevalent.

PaSoK: On September 24 the debate of the candidates – What are the proposals – 2024-09-20 08:54:00

written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

During the meeting of EDEKAP with the participation of the representatives of the candidates for the PASOK presidential elections, there was an agreement on the date of the debate. The telefight will finally take place on September 24 and will be broadcast on the frequency of ERT.

According to the first information, there has already been a first agreement of the “camps” on the framework of the dialogue of the thematic units, as well as on conducting a direct dialogue between the candidates. However, the exact terms will be settled at the next meeting that will be held with the candidates’ staffs.

Androulakis’ proposals

According to associates of Nikos Androulakis, a proposal was submitted to have the possibility three times during the debate for each candidate to have a direct dialogue for two minutes with a different co-candidate.

In addition, it was proposed that the six thematic sections be divided into:

– Economy, Social State, Regional Development
– Foreign policy
– Climate Change, Resilience
– Institutions, State, Local Government
– PASOK in the political environment
– Problems and challenges faced by the new generation

The president’s side had already proposed a telefight with different termswhich surprised and gave special interest to internal party developments. The reason was that something similar has never happened before, neither in PaSoK nor in Greece in general. But it is something common among candidates in European states.

The attitude of the other candidates

From the staff of Haris Doukas, they emphasized from the beginning that the Mayor of Athens is in favor of an open discussion with free dialogue, as long as rules are introduced, in order to find a solution. His colleagues also requested that there be guarantees of equal participation of all the candidates, as there are six in number.

Pavlos Geroulanos was also in favor, welcoming the initiative. It is something he wanted, as – as his close associate pointed out – there is a political culture, the conditions are ready for such a thing and he will serve it.

Anna Diamantopoulou, who has repeatedly requested the debate, had moved along the same wavelength. In fact, for two weeks she has been emphasizing that whatever she has planned for the day of the telefight, on 9/24, she will cancel it in order to be present and present her proposals for the next day at PaSoK. She asked the same from her co-candidates, so that this opportunity for an open discussion between them would not be lost.

Michalis Katrinis had no objection as he stated for direct dialogue. He agreed without objections to the proposal and wants the free dialogue to take place.

Nadia Giannakopoulou went a step further, initially agreeing with both the European and the American model, as this way there will be a real dialogue.

Diamantopoulou: Greece should challenge Germany’s decision at the European Court of Justice – 2024-09-14 21:03:57

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com September 14, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Positions and proposals for dealing with immigration, then the actions that Germany has taken in the last few hours, were presented, among others, by the candidate for the leadership of the PaSoK, Anna Diamantopoulou, speaking to a warm and crowded audience in Rhodes. An island that experiences the consequences of illegal immigration every day.

“It is very clear that in recent months the flow of refugees has increased towards the Dodecanese, one can easily see it in the city of Rhodes. Guarding our borders is the first priority if one looks at the developments in Europe.

Immigration is an extremely important issue that concerns both individual countries and overall the cohesion of the European Union. Germany’s decision to close its land borders from next Monday for six months is a blatant violation of the Schengen treaty. Gateway countries such as Greece and host countries in central Europe must cooperate in compliance with the treaties and solidarity. Otherwise, Europe risks dangerous internal conflicts. Greece cannot accept this arbitrary decision by Germany, which it will have to appeal to the European Court of Justice,” underlined Anna Diamantopoulou.

During her tour of the island of Rhodes, Mrs. Diamantopoulou visited the Military Division of Rhodes together with the Dodecanese Member of Parliament of PaSoK-KIN.AL, Mr. Giorgos Nikitiadis.

After pointing out the important role that Rhodes has as an international tourist destination par excellence, he also emphasized the great defensive importance of the island as a shield on the borders of the country. “We are not complacent, we are constantly vigilant. Despite the reduction in tensions, we are not naive, Turkey remains a revisionist force. We keep communication, we want peaceful coexistence but we do not negotiate our sovereign rights. All Greeks, people and political leadership, surround the Armed Forces with absolute confidence, we support their strengthening and we rely on their deterrent capability.”

PASOK: The battle of signatures – How many did the presidential candidates collect? – 2024-09-10 14:04:43

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com September 10, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

At 17:00, the submission of signatures by the candidate leaders of PaSoK to EDEKAP began, a process that essentially ended at 20:30 and typically at 21:00, Monday night.

The first to testify was Michalis Katrinis, followed by Nadia Giannakopoulou, Anna Diamantopoulou, Pavlos Geroulanos, Haris Doukas and finally the current president of PaSoK, Nikos Androulakis. In fact, Michalis Katrinis was the only one who went in person and submitted the signatures, while the other candidates submitted with representatives.

Details of the signatures collected by the candidates

Nikos Androulakis submitted 24,810 thousand signatures from party members and 170 members of the 300-member Central Committee of the party. Mr. Androulakis also made a related post where he described the central stake of the internal party elections on October 6 in a video he posted on social media. He symbolically chose to be filmed in the local organization of Aianis Kozani, which was one of the first organizations of PaSoK in 1974 in the prefecture and reopened its offices a year ago, as happened in many corners of the country where hundreds of local organizations reopened. “I came here to symbolize my unlimited appreciation and respect towards the thousands of ordinary people of the PASOK, who kept the Democratic Party standing during the difficult years, and to ask them to renew our relationship of trust on October 6 and 13. Because together we can go even stronger, even higher” notes Nikos Androulakis in his message.

In December 1974, the first local organization office in the prefecture was opened in Aiani Kozani. A year ago, the Local Organization of Aianis opened its office again. It was one of the many PASOK offices that opened in every corner of the country.

From his side Harry Doukas submitted 100 signatures of members of the party’s Central Political Committee, a number which, as he emphasizes in his announcement, is twice the limit of 15% of KPE members provided for in article 28 of the PASoK statute. As his entourage points out, they have collected many thousands of signatures of support. The final number will be announced in the coming days

As for him Pavlos Gerulanosubmitted 7,962 signatures to EDEKAP.

OR Anna Diamantopoulou submitted 7,000 signatures.

THE Michalis Katrinis submitted 14,001 signatures to EDEKAP. “It is a resounding response to the attempts to manipulate the elections in PaSoK, since Mr. Katrinis far exceeded the limit of 5,000 signatures required – based on the statute – for those who run for office, by submitting 14,000 signatures, with full names, addresses and contact information”, emphasize associates of Mr. Katrinis

I feel the need to say a big thank you to the 14,000 citizens who signed and support my candidacy.

Their love and trust is my strength.

OR Nadia Giannakopoulou submitted 8,286 signatures

What is happening with Kanellakis?

At the same time, Yiannis Kanellakis sent a letter to EDEKAP asking for his candidacy to be accepted without having submitted a candidacy so far.

With the collection of signatures, their identification and nominations, PaSoK enters the final stretch for the internal party elections on October 6. In addition, when the president of PaSoK Nikos Androulakis returns from D.E.Th. and the Central Committee is completed on the 15th of the month, developments are also expected in the matter of the debate.

The announcement of EDEKAP

The filing of nominations for the election of the President of the PaSoK-Movement for Change on October 6, 2024 was completed today, Monday at 21:00 pm.

Their application for candidacy accompanied by member signatures was submitted by:

1. Androulakis Nikos: 171 signatures of KPE members and 24,810 signatures of members
2. Geroulanos Pavlos: 7,962 member signatures
3. Giannakopoulou Nadia: 8,286 member signatures
4. Diamantopoulou Anna: 7,000 member signatures
5. Doukas Haris: 100 signatures of KPE members
6. Katrinis Michalis: 14,001 member signatures

The submission of a total of more than 62,000 signatures foreshadows massive participation in the upcoming election process, which will strengthen the role of PaSoK-Movement for Change in the political life of the country.

The Ethics Committee for the Implementation of the Statute and Certification (EDEKAP) will immediately proceed with the verification of the signatures and the announcement of the candidates in the next few days.

PaSoK: The messages of the signatures – Bey and the captains of Athens – 2024-09-10 05:23:02

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com September 10, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

The first act in this complex scene of the internal processes in the PASOK has been completed. The organizing staffs of the gladiators collected the signatures required by article 28 of the statute and now the candidates enter the final stretch. In less than a month, PaSoK has elections, but only one of the 6 candidates will sit on the chair of the 6th floor of Harilaou Trikoupi. Where Andreas Papandreou sat first.

A total of 62,330 signatures were sent, on the 4th floor of Harilaou Trikoupi, where the EDEKAP office is. In the next few hours, the body responsible for the faithful observance of the statute, is called to carry out sample checks that will update the correctness of the procedure and then it will have to announce the nominations.

Androulaki’s display of power

The president of PaSoK, Nikos Androulakis, submitted 24,810 signatures of support from the base of the faction and another 171 members of the Central Committee. The move was interpreted by many as a show of strength, as Mr. Androulakis reached 25,000 signatures, more than any other candidate. At the same time, the 171 members of the Central Committee are a telling element that, despite the questioning and the early recourse to the polls, it largely maintains its power in the highest governing body of the party. He announced the submission of the signatures himself through a video he uploaded on social media. This particular video was filmed at the new offices of PASOK in Aiani Kozani, a place he found during his tour.

The party message of Haris Doukas

Power in K.E. showed that Haris Doukas has it too. The Mayor of the city of Athens chose to submit only 100 signatures of members of the K.E. Thus showing that about 1/3 of the faction’s top organ has a reference to it. Something that was not the case a year ago. In fact, these signatures are twice the limit of 15% provided by the statute. The smolization of the internal opposition and its expression in his person, officially constitute the creation of a pole within the PASOK, and at the same time one of the messages of yesterday’s process.

Also, it is worth mentioning that Mr. Doukas did not provide signatures of support from the grassroots, even though he ran a campaign in the previous period. Campaign that even had targeted sponsored social media posts. His staff emphasize that they have collected thousands of signatures and that the exact number will be announced in the coming days. However, whatever number of signatures is announced by the Duke camp, this cannot be checked, nor confirmed by EDEKAP, as the process is clear and no additions are now allowed. According to members of EDEKAP, Mr. Doukas, like all the candidates, could submit the signatures until yesterday at 21:00.

The names of the captains of Athens

One of the people who signed in favor of Haris Doukas is the deputy mayor of Athens for cleaning, but also a member of the Political Council Roxani Beyfor which many believed that she would be on the side of Nikos Androulakis. The mayor of Athens is also supported by the deputy mayor of Education Paris Charlautis who comes from the same school as the president of PaSoK. These are some of the names that were discussed in the corridors of Harilaou Trikoupi and brought satisfaction to the Dukas camp.

However, the open support of some members of the faction of the Mayor of Athens to Nikos Androulakis has caused a sensation. One of these persons is the deputy mayor of finance George Giannaros who signed in favor of Androulakis, as did the authorized advisors Popi Yiannopoulou, Dimitra Sideris, Christina Vassiliou, Mina Funjula. At the same time, the chairman of the Municipal Council Manolis Velegrakis and the vice mayor of infrastructure Andreas Grammatikogiannis have also expressed themselves openly in favor of the candidacy of Nikos Androulakis, while the mandated advisor Tryfon Kavvathas supports Michael Katriniswhich shows that the Duke faction has significant cracks on the way to the October 6 ballot.

The surprise

One of the facts that surprised anyone who follows the internal affairs of PaSoK is the number of signatures collected by Michalis Katrinis. Mr. Katrinis, who is also the only candidate to be elected MP from the province, submitted a total of 14,001 signatures. A big number, which surprised many and did not go unnoticed through the corridors of Harilaou Trikoupi. Mr. Katrinis was also the only candidate who went in person to the offices of PaSoK

A standard procedure

His associates Pavlos Geroulanos they submitted 7,962 signatures, a number that had been leaked early on. Mr. Geroulanos is these days on a tour in Thessaloniki which gives a great base and on Wednesday he will be in Vellideio to attend the speech of the president of PaSoK. At the time of the deposit of the signatures, he made a speech to present his plan for the economy, which is also the important political event of the day for him and his associates.

Anna Diamantopoulou 7,000 signatures, which is enough to be a candidate and to provoke the debate she wants. After all, this is what he said in a meeting with journalists that he had late at night in a well-known bar in the downtown area.

Her associates Nadias Giannakopoulou they presented 8,300 signatures as she is also on tour, while Yannis Kanellakis requested in his letter that EDEKAP accept his candidacy.

Anna Diamantopoulou: “Strong PaSoK means strength in society. Now is the time” – 2024-09-04 22:47:08

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com September 4, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

In the same historic hall where on September 3, 1974 Andreas Papandreou presented the Founding Declaration of the PASoK, the event of Anna Diamantopoulos was held for the party’s 50th anniversary.

The event, which started with a dynamic video tribute to the important anniversary, was dedicated to the young generation and the candidate for the president of the PASOK in most of her speech highlighted the problems of young people, followed by an open discussion with young men and women who were at the event and they raised questions.

Anna Diamantopoulou characteristically mentioned, among other things, in her speech:

“In this room exactly half a century ago, the spark of change was ignited and the sun rose for all. 50 years have passed. PaSoK ruled with achievements and mistakes.
For the last 15 years we have been living in crises and the biggest difference with 1974 is that the youth do not see opportunities in front of them and do not participate.

Anna Diamantopoulou: “Strong PaSoK means strength in society. Now is the time”
 – 2024-09-04 22:47:08

Today our political system is in liquidation. The ND government is on a continuous downward trajectory. The official opposition is disintegrating. The PSoC – the Great and Government PSoC can and should be the starting point for the future. There may be a strong opposition tomorrow and a government the day after tomorrow.

To make PASOK Big and Governing again. For a Greece with democracy and security for all. For a Greece that Produces. For a Greece with justice and social cohesion.

For a Greece pioneer in the 21st century.

For a Greece of young people who stay, return, create and prosper”.

During her speech, addressing young people in particular, she noted:

“You are called today to break down the walls of a dead-end government policy that wants the youth to live on benefits, to put aside the ‘nothing happens in this country’ – let’s all say YES IT DOES. We deeply love our homeland and want it to be fair, prosperous and pioneering. But no one will do it for us. But first and foremost is the recovery of trust between us and the assumption of responsibility. And I want to rebuild this trust. And I want to serve this responsibility as the president of PASOK. With realism and logic, faith in rights and unity, with high ideals and an open party.”
