Brazilian Singer Angela Ro Dies at 75
rio de Janeiroโ – Angela ro, a celebrated Brazilian singer known for her distinctiveโฃ voice and candid lyrics, died today at the age of โ75. No cause ofโ death was immediately โannounced.
Ro launchedโ her career in the 1960s, becoming a prominent figure in โthe Brazilian music scene. She releasedโ numerous albums throughout her six-decade career, including “I got no Millennium” in 2000, “Compasso”โข in 2006, “Happy โฃLife!” in โฃ2013, and “Wild” in 2017.โ
The singer publicly battled chemical dependency,โฃ a struggle โขshe addressed openly. in 2000, she made a โdecisive change, abandoning drugs, alcohol, and cigarettes, and later lostโฃ approximately 35 pounds. She recounted in an interview withโค O Globo magazine that the turning โpointโค came after being unable to perform Frank Sinatra‘s “All The Way” during aโ 1999 show, leading to hospitalization.
“Living without drugs isโค easy. It is difficult to live under the mistreatment. Be crazy, stopโข drinking!โฃ Be crazy, stop smoking,” Ro onceโฃ said, as reported byโฃ O Globo.
Ro also spoke about the difficult choices โshe made during her recovery,including a frankโฃ conversation with a longtime employee โคalso struggling with addiction. “Either me, or the drugs,” she recalled telling her maid, ultimately ending โthe relationship to protect her sobriety.
In addition โto her musical career, Ro hosted the talk show “Scandal” โคon Canal Brasilโข between 2004 andโ 2005. She was also honored with a tribute album, “Poor wellโค done: the songsโค of Angela Ro” in 2013, featuring male artists reinterpreting her โwork.
Most recently, Maria Bethรขnia honored Angela Ro at a show on September 8, 2025, celebrating Ro’s 60 yearsโค of career.
