Andrej Babiš Hospitalized after Alleged Assault at Campaign Rally
Dobrá, Czech Republic – Former Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš was taken to a hospital Monday after being struck in the head with crutches during a campaign rally in the village of Dobrá, Frýdek-Místek region. The incident occurred as Babiš, chairman of the ANO movement and a candidate in the Moravian-silesian Region, was meeting with supporters.
According to Aleš Juchelka, a deputy with ANO, an individual in the crowd attacked Babiš, hitting him on the head with his crutches. “Yes, I can confirm that the president was attacked by one of the citizens with crutches. The man slammed him in his head,” Juchelka told news server Novinky.cz. Babiš immediately sought medical attention, prompting the cancellation of the remainder of his scheduled campaign appearances for the day.
Juchelka stated that details regarding Babiš’s condition are currently unavailable. The incident has drawn immediate condemnation from political figures, including Interior Minister Vít Rakušan (STAN), who posted on Instagram: “Violence in any form is unacceptable and does not solve anything. Today’s attack on Andrej Babiš clearly condemns.”
Jan Havelíček, vice-chairman of the Chamber of Deputies, also commented on the incident via social media, warning that the increasingly hostile political climate could lead to further violence.
As of this report, neither the police on the scene nor Babiš himself have issued a statement. The investigation is ongoing.
