mets Option Pitcher โคKodai Senga to triple-A Syracuse
Theโ New Yorkโ Mets announced Friday they have optioned right-handed pitcher Kodaiโฃ Sengaโข to โTriple-A Syracuse. The move comes as Senga has struggled recently, posting a 6.56 ERAโ over his last eight starts and failing to complete six innings in any outing sinceโข June 6.
Senga’s โขdemotion reflectsโฃ a concerningโค downturn โขfor the โJapanese import, who signed a five-year, $75 million contract with the Mets prior to the 2023โฃ season. The institution hopes a stint in the minors will allow Senga toโ address mechanicalโ issues andโ regain the form that โmade โคhimโ a โขpromising addition to the โคrotation.Mets โขmanager Carlos Mendoza acknowledged the โsituation last weekend, stating, โ”I’m pretty sure we’re going to have some discussions about what’s next for him. Our โฃjob is โฃto โคget him right. But it’s been a struggle.” Senga also missed over aโค month โof the current season due to a strained โright hamstring.
In corresponding moves, the Mets activated โcatcher Francisco Alvarez from the injured list and added right-handed reliever Wander Suero, whoโข was claimed off waivers from the Atlanta Braves on โThursday. Alvarez returns โafter being sidelined โฃwith โan ulnar collateral ligament โsprainโ in hisโ right โคthumb, an โinjuryโ further complicated by a subsequent fracture in the pinkie finger of his โleft hand sustained while playing for Syracuse. While the UCL sprain will ultimately require surgery, the โขMets are aiming to postponeโข the procedure until after the season. Catcher Haydenโค Senger wasโข also optioned to โขTriple-A Syracuse alongside Senga.
