COPPER MOUNTAIN, COLORADO – ⁢Lena Dürr etched her ⁢name ⁣into the record ‌books Saturday, achieving a career-best sixth-place finish⁣ in the giant slalom at ‍the ‌Alpine Ski World Cup in Copper Mountain.The 34-year-old German ⁣skier demonstrated‌ consistent speed‍ and precision,narrowly‌ missing a potential podium spot.

Dürr’s impressive performance followed a strong first ⁢run were she ⁤positioned‌ herself in fourth place. While ultimately falling short of the podium by a‍ mere 0.36 seconds, the result marks a important⁣ milestone for the ‍slalom specialist, representing her first top-ten finish ⁢in a World Cup giant slalom competition.

The race was won by New ⁢Zealand’s Alice Robinson,⁣ the 2023 World championship silver medalist‌ from ‌Saalbach. robinson finished ahead ⁢of Austria’s Julia Scheib, who previously‌ secured a surprise victory‍ in the season-opening giant slalom in Sölden, Austria.

The ‍American ⁣contingent saw mixed⁢ results. Skiing‌ superstar⁤ Mikaela Shiffrin struggled on home snow, finishing in 14th⁤ place (+2.08⁤ seconds).‍ ⁢ Simultaneously ‌occurring, ‌Emma Aicher finished 47th (+4.10 seconds), ‌failing to qualify for the second run, alongside compatriots Fabiana Dorigo‌ (39th/+3.24) and Jessica Hilzinger ⁤(41st/+3.46).

Dürr’s recent form has ⁤been promising, ⁣with top-ten finishes⁤ in slalom races at Levi, ‍Finland (4th) and Gurgl, Austria (7th). She also met the Olympic⁢ standard with her 14th-place finish in‌ Sölden earlier⁤ this season.

Schmid surged ‌to tenth place from 24th after ‍the first run, while Gratz achieved his career-best World Cup finish in 13th.

The results mark important progress for the German ski team as they aim to secure‍ spots for the 2026⁣ Winter Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo (Febuary 6th to 22nd). ⁣Schmid and Gratz each secured half of the ‌Olympic standard, requiring one top-8 finish or two top-15 placements ⁤to fully qualify. Hospital staff responded to the commotion, ⁢and Sarrazin found himself‌ attempting to explain their noise was exacerbating his condition.

the situation rapidly deteriorated, leading to a panic attack and the governance of medication to‌ help him sleep. Upon waking the next morning, Sarrazin was transferred to a hospital in Lyon, where he was greeted by his father. However,the most significant challenge remained: a severe speech impediment.

“And the great thing is, it comes out on its own!” Sarrazin recounted, referring to the involuntary nature of his speech⁤ difficulties. For ten days following the incident,⁢ his speech was slurred, and he experienced “lack of the word,” a recognized ⁤syndrome affecting language fluency. ⁣

Sarrazin underwent four to ⁣five weeks of rehabilitation at a specialized centre to regain his speech, ultimately succeeding in restoring his ability to communicate effectively. Ledecká’s Olympic Schedule Change “Absolutely Unrealistic,” Says⁢ Czech Skiing Official

Jan Fiedler, the Alpine disciplines sports⁣ director for the Czech Ski Union, stated that a change to triple Olympic champion Ester Ledecká’s⁤ schedule for the Milan and Cortina D’Ampezzo Games -‌ specifically, competing in⁢ both skiing and parallel giant ⁣slalom snowboarding‍ – is‌ highly improbable.

Both events currently‍ fall on Sunday, Febuary 8th. “I think changes in terms are absolutely unrealistic,”⁣ Fiedler explained. “Tickets are sold, everything is fixed in the Olympic program. Two years ago we could speculate that the change would happen, but now I think it is absolutely unrealistic. ‌It can only change the⁢ weather.”

The logistical challenges ‍also contribute ⁣to the unlikelihood of a change, with downhill⁢ skiing events scheduled for Cortina⁤ and snowboarding in Livigno, approximately six ‍hours apart by car. Ledecká had previously discussed potential schedule adjustments with International Olympic Commitee President Kirst Coventry.

The Alpine program continues on February 10th with a team combination event in the slalom, followed by the ⁢Super-G two⁢ days later.

Fiedler indicated that starting with the combination ‍event before snowboarding would⁣ be feasible. “It is a bit offered.
