About twenty countries have received a similar letter from the beginning of the week, with 25% applied to products from allies such as Japan and South Korea, and up to 40% for some countries of Southeast Asia
Donald Trump has announced that from August 1st the American administration will impose commercial duties equal to 35% on Canada products. In a message published on his Truth Social Platform on the evening of 10 July Ore of Washigton (when in Europe it was already night between Thursday and Friday), the US President attached a letter sent to the Canadian premier, Mark Carney, similar to those sent in the last few days to the leaders of other countries. «Instead of collaborating, Canada has sold themselves with its rates. If Ottawa will work with me to stop Fenanyl’s trafficking, I could consider an adjustment », reads the document. As in all the letters sent from Monday 7 July, these duties will be added to those imposed on specific sectors of activity, such as steel and aluminum or cars.
It is not yet clear whether the new rates will apply to all Canadian goods and goods or if they only apply to the number of goods on which the United States have already imposed rates. “During the current commercial negotiations with the United States, the Canadian government firmly defended our workers and our businesses,” said Prime Minister Mark Carley in an X post. “We will continue to do it while we work towards the magazine expiration of 1 August”.
Trump declared in an interview with NBC, also the intention of imposing generalized bodies of 15% or 20% on most commercial partners. “We will simply say that all the remaining countries,” those who have not received the letters on rates, “will pay, whether 15% or 20%”. For Brussels the letter will start “today or tomorrow”. “I would like to do it today,” said the US president. “I’m talking to the EU, we should send them in the next few hours.”
Meanwhile, about twenty countries have already received a similar letter from the beginning of the week that started on July 7, with 25% applied to products from allies such as Japan and South Korea, and up to 40% for some countries of Southeast Asia.
But it was Brazil, who had not been targeted so far by overflows over 10%, who saw the largest increase in customs duties applied to its products, with the US president who announced 50% in response to the accusation of the former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro, accused of having implemented an attempt at a coup after the defeat of President Lula.
The announcements of the new customs tariffs have marked the last twist in a turbulent week in which Trump has exacerbated the global commercial war, threatening duties on more than 20 countries, as well as imminent samples of 50% on copper. The president quoted the absence of a great negative reaction of financial defects, after Thursday, the day of the letter to Canada, the US actions closed to the historic tops. “I think the rates have been welcomed very well. The stock market touched a new maximum today, “Trump said to the NBC.

During a recent NATO summit in The Hague, netherlands, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte surprised many by referring to former U.S. President Donald Trump as “Papito.” The unusual term of endearment sparked considerable discussion about international diplomacy and the relationships between world leaders.
The incident occurred during animated conversations between Trump and Rutte, where Trump commented on the behavior of Israel and Iran, likening them to “two children in the courtyard of a school.” Rutte responded by saying that “there are times when Papito has to use a harder language.” this comment followed Trump’s own outburst expressing concern that the truce he announced between Iran and Israel was in jeopardy after only 12 days of cross-border attacks.
Did You Know? The term “Papito” is a Spanish term of endearment, often used to refer to someone as “daddy” or “father figure.”
The laudatory tone used by Rutte towards Trump, whom he also called “Dear Donald,” raised eyebrows among attendees. At a press conference following the summit, Rutte defended his consistent praise of the former U.S. President, describing him as a “good friend.” He further stated that Trump “deserves all praise” for his “decisive action” against iran and for pressing NATO allies to considerably increase their military expenditures. In 2024, NATO members agreed to increase defense spending to at least 2% of their gross domestic product (GDP) [[1]].
Adding to the surprise, Rutte also characterized Trump as a “man of peace” for promoting a truce between Israelis and Iranians. This description came just two days after the U.S. army, under Trump’s orders, bombarded three Iranian nuclear facilities. The juxtaposition of military action and the “man of peace” label created a complex narrative.

Trump himself seemed to welcome the praise, even sharing a screenshot highlighting Rutte’s flattering messages, which mirrored Trump’s own style of using capitalized words and repeated adverbs. When asked about his view of allies as children, Trump responded, “I liked it.I think I like it… He has done it with love.’Papí, you are my dad.'”
Prior to the NATO Summit, Trump received a grand welcome in the Netherlands, including a dinner, bed, and breakfast provided by the Dutch monarchs. This exclusive treatment was seen as an effort to ease the atmosphere and further flatter Trump leading up to the summit.

What impact do you think personal relationships have on international diplomacy? How should world leaders balance flattery and direct dialog?
The use of nicknames and personal praise in international relations is not new. Leaders frequently enough employ such tactics to build rapport, influence negotiations, and foster alliances. Though, these gestures can also be perceived as insincere or manipulative, leading to skepticism and distrust. The balance between genuine connection and strategic maneuvering is a delicate one, requiring careful consideration of cultural norms, political contexts, and individual personalities.
The relationship between the United States and its NATO allies has often been complex, with varying levels of cooperation and occasional tensions. The pressure to increase military spending, for example, has been a recurring theme, with the U.S.often urging other members to meet their agreed-upon targets. These dynamics highlight the ongoing challenges of maintaining a strong and unified alliance in the face of diverse national interests and priorities.

Seat sharing in India Bloc alliance Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) held an important meeting while the deliberations were progressing. It is reported that the alliance between the two parties was confirmed in the meeting in Delhi. In Delhi, one party will contest on 4 seats and the other on 3 seats. Delhi has a total of 7 Lok Sabha seats. Meanwhile, which party will have more seats is yet to be decided. It is also noteworthy that there is no agreement on which seats each party will contest. AAP leader Raghav Chadha described this meeting as positive. Meanwhile, sources said that no issue has emerged regarding the alliance between the two parties in Delhi.
No alliance in Punjab
The alliance’s prospects in Punjab are not easy. AAP and Congress are political rivals in the state. But both sides also know the importance of coming together in the Lok Sabha elections. But both the parties have reiterated that they will field their candidates in all the seats in Punjab. Both the parties are hoping that the election results will be in their favor along with increasing their political influence in Punjab. Therefore, there is no chance of an alliance between AAP and Congress in Punjab.
AAP wants in these states..
Apart from Delhi and Punjab, AAP wants to expand its presence in states like Gujarat, Goa and Haryana. In this regard, Congress has agreed to respond in the next 2-3 days in consultation with the local leadership. The chances of Aam Aadmi Party and Congress contesting together in the upcoming elections have increased significantly, especially in Delhi and Gujarat. The purpose of this alliance is to present an opposition front.
Meeting regarding seat allocation
On Friday, Aam Aadmi Party and Congress held a discussion for seat sharing. It is not yet revealed what was decided in this meeting. “Today’s meeting was very positive. We cannot comment on all the states. Also, Arvind Kejriwal will attend the virtual meeting of the India Bloc tomorrow,” AAP leader Raghav Chadha said after the meeting ended in the evening. Meanwhile, Congress leader Salman Khurshid informed that we are moving fast towards the decision.
Awaiting final decision
The meeting between AAP and Congress is considered to have led to a strategic change in Indian politics. The talks are of national importance as they indicate a strong contest in the upcoming elections and the possibility of coalitions formed by common political interests. But political circles are waiting for the final decision to come out.
