Italy Urges Unifiedโค European AI Frameworkโข as Adoption โRises & โขPublic Calls for Regulation Grow
Rome,November 27,2025 – Asโ artificial intelligence adoptionโ accelerates globally,Italy is pushing for a comprehensive European regulatory framework to avoid falling behind the Unitedโ States,China, andโ India.โข The call for unified action came duringโฃ theโ third edition of “Humanโข Intelligence, Artificial Support” held at the adnkronos headquarters inโ Rome, bringing togetherโค institutions and companies to address the rapidly evolvingโข landscape.
Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council Alberto โฃBarachini emphasized the need for a broader European approach, statingโ that a national law alone would be insufficient to govern the โdigital conversion. โคHe highlighted the urgency of defining โคrequest areas, contrasting the advanced AI services already deployed in the US – like driverless taxis -โ with ongoing debates in Italy regarding โฃtheโ pace of implementation.
The Ministry of Enterprise and โคMade โin โคItaly (Mimit) outlined threeโ key initiatives: โtechnological transfer, training, and business support. A new funding call โฃfor SMEs, launching in January, โaims to โengage younger generations in utilizing new technologies. However, a significant digital โgap remains, with 70.2% ofโฃ Italian small โขand medium-sized enterprisesโค still at a low levelโ of digitalization, โcompared to a similar initiative reaching 350,000โข companies in Spain.
Positive โdevelopments are alreadyโข underway through โItaly’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (Pnrr). DXC Technology’s Nicola Mangia detailedโค the company’sโ collaboration with the Ministries of โSurroundings and culture, creating an environmental monitoring system โand a programme for digitizing Italian culturalโข heritage – โขa project that has garnered internationalโ attention. “Myโข internationalโ colleagues โwere fascinated to see how weโฃ are carrying forward the digitalization of Italian culturalโข heritage,” Mangia explained.
On โthe european โfront, โขMEP Brando โขBenifei anticipates new technical โstandards โฃfor the AI Act by 2027, with the European Commission prepared to establishโฃ them if necessary. Lauraโข Jugel,โ from โคthe EUโค Commission, โคannounced aโ simplifying package for โa โคsingle European โsandbox, โexpected to be implemented โขin memberโข countries starting in august.
Growing acceptanceโค of AI is reflected in Italian universities,โค where usage reaches 83%, increasing to 85% during master’s programs and 87% for doctoralโ studies. Public skepticism is also waning,โฃ with 90%โ of Italians now calling for โฃmore rules, while the โpercentage of those feeling inadequately informed โhas โขdecreased from 52% last year โขto 48%.โข
Alberto โTripi, advisor to Confindustria, underscored Italy’s potential, stating, “We Italians have more creativity than others and we must use it” to effectively channel innovation โwithinโ a common regulatory system.
