Amsterdam City center Designated Safety Risk Area Ahead of โฃAjax-Galatasaray Match
Amsterdam, Netherlands -โ A portion of Amsterdam’sโฃ city center will be designated aโ safety risk area tomorrow, โbeginning at 12 noon, due to the Champions League match between Ajax andโ Turkish club galatasaray. The decision was made by the city’s “triangle” of โmayor, police, and justice officials, citing concerns over potential โคpublic disturbances and illegal fireworks.
Theโ safety risk area encompasses Amsterdam Central Station, Dam Square,โ theโ Redโ Light District, and the area surrounding the johan Cruijffโข Arena. Preventative searches will be conducted within these zones, andโ wearing โclothing that covers โฃthe face is prohibited. this measure follows a โฃpattern of increased security protocols around matches deemed to โคcarry a higher risk ofโ disruption, particularly those involving Galatasaray, Besiktas, and Fenerbahce โค- Turkish clubs known for their passionate fan bases.
Recent incidents underscore โฃtheโ need for heightened security. Following a January 30th match where Ajax defeated Galatasaray 2-1, fifteen fans were arrested on Dam Square,โค primarily for fireworks-related โฃoffenses. A year prior,โ fourteen individuals were arrested near a match against โขBesiktas.
Accordingโฃ to โthe โmunicipality, the decision accounts for “public disturbances and the โคsetting off of heavyโค illegal โฃfireworks, given recent โprevious experiences surrounding European competitions and specificallyโค theโข previous meeting between these twoโค clubs.” The safety measures will remainโค in effect โฃfrom noon until midnight.
