The crash, involving a Boeing 787, claimed the lives of all other passengers and crew. While the cause remains under investigation, a preliminary report from India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau indicated that cockpit cutoff switches for fuel supply to both engines were activated in rapid succession, resulting in a simultaneous loss of thrust. The disaster has prompted an outpouring of national mourning in India and concern within the international aviation community. Air India has pledged ongoing support to Ramesh, prioritizing his well-being and attempting to connect with him directly.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Ramesh shortly after the crash, offering condolences and support. Air India stated to CBS News that providing “support through what must have been an unimaginable period” for Ramesh is their “absolute priority.” The airline has expressed a desire to meet with him and will “continue to reach out,” hoping for a positive response.
The preliminary investigation report released in July revealed that the fuel cutoff switches for both engines were switched off, one after the other, within a single second. This action led to the complete loss of power and the subsequent crash. Authorities are continuing to analyze data and evidence to determine the precise sequence of events and the reason behind the switch activations.
