Kyiv Under Drone Attack; Emergency Crews Respond
Air Defenses Active as Wreckage Ignites Fires
Late this evening, Kyiv faced a barrage of Russian drone attacks, triggering air defense systems and causing damage in multiple districts as emergency services mobilized to address fires and debris.
Drone Incursion and Air Defense
Air raid sirens wailed across Kyiv as Ukrainian forces engaged incoming drones. Timur Tkachenko, head of the KMVA, confirmed the enemy drone activity. Air Force Command reported that air defenses were actively engaged.
Tkachenko initially reported that drone debris was found in an open area within the Solomensky district, with no immediate reports of casualties. Air defenses, according to the Kyiv City State Administration, remained active.
Damage Reports Emerge
Subsequently, Tkachenko updated the situation, noting that Russian drones were still flying over Kyiv. Information surfaced regarding a fire breaking out on the roof of a 16-story residential building in the Obolonsky district.
First responders were dispatched to the Obolonsky district, where drone fragments reportedly struck a residential building’s roof, according to city mayor Vitaliy Klitschko.
“Russian aggression against Ukraine is not slowing down. Since January 2024, more than 1,200 people have been killed or injured,”
Although initial reports suggested damage to a residential building, Klitschko later stated that responding teams had not yet found any damage upon arrival at the Obolon site.
Additional Impacts
Later, at 22:41, Klitschko posted an update indicating that UAV fragments were discovered near an educational institution and several residential buildings in the Dnieper region. Emergency services were deployed to the location.
Solomensky District Fire
Tkachenko reported around 23:57 that the Russian attack in the Solomensky district resulted in a fire in a non-residential building. Authorities are working to determine whether there were any casualties.
