Grandmother’s Dizziness Initially Misdiagnosed as โDepression Before Terminal Brain Tumor Revelation
Nottingham, UK – A 65-year-old โwoman’s โคpersistent โคdizziness was โฃinitially attributed to depression before a devastating diagnosis revealed a glioblastoma, anโข aggressive โขformโ of brain cancer. She passed โaway just monthsโ later, โฃleaving her family reeling from the speed of โขthe illness.
Sarah Cook, of โขLincoln, frist experiencedโฃ dizziness โขin theโข summer of 2023. Initially, โขmedical professionals suggested the symptom โwas linked to depression, according to her โฃdaughter,โ Amy Bowkett. Though,โ after โseeking further medical attention, a tumor was discovered.
“Mum had surgery at Queen’s Medical โCenter in Nottingham in november 2023,”โ Bowkett said. โฃ”The surgeons managed โขto removeโค a large part of the tumour but not all of it. she started six โฃweeks of combined radiotherapy and chemotherapy over Christmas and into theโข new year.”
The treatment proved incredibly difficult. โ”It was brutal,” Bowkett continued. “She became weak, developed infections, and was admitted to hospital several times.”
In February 2024, โฃthe familyโ received further heartbreaking news: the tumor had regrown. โ”Doctors told us thereโ was nothing more they could do,” Bowkett said, and the family broughtโ theirโ motherโข home.
Cook’s condition rapidly deteriorated after celebrating her birthday, leading to seizures, loss ofโฃ speech, and immobility. She died onโ March 24, โฃ2024, ten days after โคher daughter’s birthday.
“It isโข indeed โso hard to make sense of howโฃ fast โit all happened. She โคwent on a cruise in August 2023,โ looking perfectly โwell, โand byโฃ March she was gone,” Bowkett said.โฃ “Glioblastoma is such a cruel and invasive disease. It strips a person of everything: their movement, speech, and โindependence, piece by piece.”
To raise awareness and โฃfunds for research, Bowkettโข participated in โคthe 99 Miles inโข November challenge, supporting the Nottingham Brainโ Tumour Research Centre of Excellence, โคset to launch next year.
“Myโข goal is to get the wholeโ of lincoln involved. My husband Ben,my son Marley, and my โฃsisters are all joining in,” Bowkett said. “We will walk together for โMum, remembering her theโฃ way sheโฃ would want to be remembered, full of life and laughter.”
