Ludogorets Defeats Malmö in Europa League away Victory, Reversing Past Champions League Defeat

MALMÖ, SWEDEN – Ludogorets secured a historic 2-0 victory against Malmö FF in their Europa League clash on thursday, marking the Bulgarian champion’s first win against the Swedish side after being eliminated by them in the Champions league qualifying rounds four years prior. Goals from Stanic in the 9th minute and bile in the 23rd minute propelled Ludogorets to a commanding lead, despite a late goal from Malmö’s Lars Berg Jonsen in the 75th minute.

The win represents a critically important turnaround for ludogorets, who previously suffered defeat to Malmö in the Champions League qualifiers. Despite a strong performance from Malmö, particularly in the first half with several attempts saved by Ludogorets goalkeeper Sergio Padt, and a controversial yellow card decision involving Adrian Skogmar in the 44th minute, the Bulgarian team maintained their composure.Padt continued to prove pivotal, making crucial saves in the 86th minute to deny Malmö a late equalizer.

The match saw several near misses for Ludogorets, including a shot from kayo Vidal that hit the crossbar in added time of the first half and another one-on-one opportunity saved by Malmö goalkeeper Olsen in the 59th minute.

Ludogorets coach Rui Mota opted for a lineup excluding Bulgarian players, favoring a trio of Duarte, Stanic, and Resi in midfield, while also keeping summer signing Kaloch on the bench. Marcus was preferred in attack over Tekpete.

Bulgaria’s Road Safety: Fines vs. Real Solutions

by Emma Walker – News Editor September 15, 2025
written by Emma Walker – News Editor

Bulgaria Faces Calls for Stricter Speeding Penalties Following Road Safety Concerns

Sofia, ‌Bulgaria – Growing concerns over ‌road safety in Bulgaria are fueling debate over the country’s lenient speeding penalties, particularly in comparison to other European nations.Road safety experts assert that exceeding ⁤the speed ⁣limit, even by 20 km/h, significantly increases the risk of fatal accidents. However, current Bulgarian law imposes⁣ fines as low as 50 BGN ‌(approximately €25) for speeding, a sum some ‌lawmakers argue is insufficient to‌ deter reckless‌ driving.

Currently, drivers in ⁣Bulgaria face license‌ suspension for only 2-3 ‌months for exceeding the speed limit by over 50 km/h. This contrasts sharply with countries like France, were⁤ fines for speeding can reach €3750, coupled with vehicle confiscation ‍and a⁤ three-year ⁢license suspension. Italy imposes fines up ⁣to €3389 for exceeding ⁤60 km/h, with a one-year license ⁢suspension.

Sweden, consistently ranked among the safest countries for road travel ⁤with 20 road‍ fatalities annually-20 times fewer than Bulgaria-punishes exceeding the⁣ speed ⁤limit by over ‍40 km/h with⁤ fines of ⁤€4000, and in severe cases,‍ imprisonment.

The ‌implementation ⁢of average speed ‍control systems across Bulgaria’s 11 designated sections has also drawn criticism.⁢ While the systems are registering offenders, no ⁣fines have been issued‌ to date. Critics point out that drivers are utilizing smartphone applications to ‌detect these ⁣zones and⁤ adjust thier speed accordingly, only to accelerate again once clear.

The comparatively low⁢ penalties in Bulgaria – a €300 maximum⁢ fine, or approximately €10 for‌ exceeding by 10⁣ km/h -⁤ are prompting calls for reform to align with⁢ european⁤ standards and improve road safety.

Hydrogen Car Decline: Stations Closing, Brands Abandoning Investment

by Priya Shah – Business Editor September 15, 2025

Hydrogen Cars Face‌ Extinction as Battery Technology Surges Ahead

SOFIA, Bulgaria ‍ – The promise of a hydrogen-powered automotive future is fading rapidly, overshadowed by advancements in battery electric vehicle (EV) technology adn infrastructure. ‌Despite offering mileage comparable to gasoline vehicles – the newest Hyundai Nexo boasts a potential range of 700 kilometers – hydrogen cars are increasingly viewed as a costly and complex solution with limited viability for mainstream adoption.

While hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (FCEVs) generate electricity through a chemical process combining⁤ hydrogen and oxygen, emitting only water vapor, the technology remains substantially more expensive ⁤than battery EVs. FCEVs require not only an electric‌ motor but also a fuel cell “power plant,” adding substantial cost and‌ complexity. This economic‌ hurdle, coupled ⁣with the lack of widespread hydrogen refueling infrastructure, is proving insurmountable. Tho refueling mirrors propane-butane filling – taking just minutes to ‍achieve a 600-kilometer range – the availability of‍ hydrogen‍ stations lags far behind the expanding network of EV charging points.

Recent ‌developments further diminish the prospects for hydrogen cars. battery technology is rapidly closing the mileage gap, with some electric vehicles now offering comparable ranges. Crucially, charging times for EVs are also decreasing, approaching the speed of hydrogen refueling. Investment in ⁢electricity grid ⁤capacity, while substantial, is progressing at a faster pace than the development of a hydrogen production and distribution network.

A potential disruption in the supply of rare metals from⁢ China, essential for EV batteries, could offer a temporary reprieve. However, industry analysts predict hydrogen’s future lies primarily in heavy transport – trucks and ships – where the weight and space⁢ constraints of large battery packs⁤ are notably problematic. For passenger vehicles,⁤ the trajectory points decisively toward battery electric ⁣dominance.

by Emma Walker – News Editor September 11, 2025

Ecostickers to⁢ Be Discontinued for Vehicle Inspections in⁣ Bulgaria

Sofia,Bulgaria ⁣-⁣ bulgaria ⁣will eliminate ‍teh⁣ physical ecosticker currently affixed to vehicle windshields,Transport and Communications ‌Minister ⁣Grozdan Karadjov announced during a BLITSCONTROL ‌session of the Parliament’s⁤ Transport Committee. The‌ change, effective sence a court ruling on September 6th, will shift reliance to a digital ⁢record of vehicle environmental categories maintained by the Automobile Administration Executive Agency (IAAA).

The discontinuation of the sticker impacts all vehicle owners in Bulgaria, streamlining ‍the inspection⁤ process and perhaps impacting municipal ⁤air quality control‍ measures. all⁤ necessary information previously‍ displayed on ⁣the ⁤ecosticker – including⁤ the vehicle’s⁤ eco-category, registration number, and type – is already stored within⁤ the IAAA database and accessible by vehicle identification number. Amendments to the Ordinance on technical inspections are currently undergoing ⁤inter-ministerial coordination⁤ and are expected ⁢to be published for public discussion within a ⁣week.

Minister Karadjov addressed concerns regarding road control without the visible sticker, stating the IAAA database provides a thorough ‌reference point. he noted that‍ only‌ the city of Sofia has requested and ⁢purchased detectors to read the environmental category information for potential restrictions on vehicle access to‍ certain zones, though no such restrictions⁣ are‍ currently ‌in ‍place.

“What will be the air ⁢in the cities… it does not depend on the ecosticans and the register, but it is in the hands of the mayors,” Karadjov stated, emphasizing that local authorities retain the power to limit vehicle access based on environmental standards ‍using the‍ available data.

Botev Plovdiv’s Ivelin Popov Departs Over Starting Role Concerns

Plovdiv, Bulgaria - Veteran footballer⁢ Ivelin Popov has left Botev Plovdiv after expressing his desire ‍to consistently play in the starting lineup, ‍a guarantee the ⁢club could not provide, according to owner Ilian Filipov. The departure⁤ comes amid a period of financial strain for⁢ Botev and slight tension within the dressing ⁣room following the return of Todor Nedelev.

Filipov revealed ⁢the decision was entirely Popov’s, stemming from ‍a meeting held last Thursday with Popov, Nedelev, Ilko Koparanski, and Nikolay Kirov. The meeting was initiated to foster‌ harmony within the team’s leadership.

“I ⁣strongly state that‍ this is entirely⁤ his decision. it also hurt me⁤ a ⁤lot,” Filipov stated. “Ivelin said the problem is he ‍wanted me to be the holder. We talked to him and told ‌him that no one ⁤could guarantee anyone that he would be the holder. We are 16th in the ranking and we have no right to mistake.I⁤ told him that Nikolay Kirov was voted on and ⁤no ⁣one can promise that every⁤ match will be ⁤the holder.”

Popov, reportedly nearing the‌ end of ‌his career, explained he needed to play regularly to feel fulfilled and didn’t wont to create issues for the club.”Better for Botev, if I don’t ⁤play – to break up,” Popov ⁢reportedly⁢ told Filipov.

Filipov emphasized the amicable nature of the ⁣discussion, stating he embraced Popov and assured him of his continued support. He added⁤ that Popov may continue his career at Lokomotiv Sofia.

Beyond the player departure, Filipov ‌addressed botev’s‌ challenging⁣ financial situation, noting the ⁤club currently employs 73 people and is burdened‌ with meaningful debts. He stated they are current on salary payments, even making them earlier each‌ month,⁢ and are actively managing obligations to agents, ‌former players, and other ‌clubs. ⁢”Ther is no way to‌ pay 8 million debts ‌within 2 months.⁣ If we hadn’t taken the club, Botev would not start in the regional group,” Filipov said. ‍

He ‌also confirmed the⁣ club is current with the National ⁣Revenue⁤ Agency (NRA) and is working to avoid‌ FIFA ‍bans ⁤by addressing outstanding contractual ⁤issues, ⁤including cases before the Court ‍of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) involving‌ Nadi and Traore, for which they intend to ‍seek funds‌ from the previous management.

Filipov disclosed that‍ CSKA Sofia had⁢ made an ‌offer for‍ left-back Konstantinos Baloyanis, but it was rejected⁢ due to its insufficient value.
