Veteran Bulgarian Voice Actor Stefan Stefanov Dies
Stefan Vladislavov Stefanov, a celebrated bulgarian actor renowned for his extensive work in film and television dubbing, has died. The news was shared by actor Igor Markovski on September 25, 2025, though the exact date of Stefanov’s passing was initially delayed in reaching public attention. He was a familiar voice too generations of Bulgarian audiences.
Stefanov’s death marks a notable loss for the Bulgarian dubbing community and the entertainment industry as a whole. His prolific career spanned over five decades, bringing iconic characters to life in both animated classics and live-action series. He leaves behind a legacy of vocal performance that has deeply impacted Bulgarian popular culture.
Stefanov graduated from Krustyo Sarafov VITIZ, Bulgaria’s leading academy for performing arts, and began contributing to the sound of Bulgarian films and series in 1966. He quickly became a mainstay in the dubbing world, lending his voice to numerous beloved productions.
Among his earliest credits in the 1970s were the popular television series “The White Dolphin” and “Rich, Poor.” His work continued thru the decades, encompassing a diverse range of programs including “The Show of Benny Hill,” “bar Cheers,” “Boldness and Beauty,” “What will people say” (seasons 2-3), “Dossiers X” (dubbed for BNT), “Military Prosecutor’s office,” and “funny ward.” He also voiced characters in “The Simpson Family” (BNT dubbing), “Marian First,” “Batman: The Animation TV series,” “Pokémon,” and “Foster’s House for Imaginary Friends.”
Stefanov’s talents extended to Latin American series such as “Wild Rose,” “Against Destiny,” “Widow in White,” and “India – Love History” (BNT dubbing), and also European series like ”The Lady with the Voal” and “Six Sisters.”
His contributions to animated films are equally remarkable,with credits including the bulgarian dubbing of “Sleeping Beauty,” “The Jungle Book,” “Wall-E,” “Winnie the Pooh,” “Cars 2,” and “Emoji: The Movie.”
In recognition of his lifelong dedication to the art of dubbing, Stefanov was presented with the Dubrt award for complete contribution by the guild of actors working in dubbing on December 21, 2016.
