Jakarta – Eight toll gates within Jakarta, directing traffic โtowardโข Cawang, were closed Saturday night as demonstrations persisted near the MPR/DPR RI (People’s Consultative Assembly/House of Representatives)โ building, according to Jasa Marga, the Indonesian toll road operator. Drivers were advised to seek โฃalternative routes, avoiding the toll road within the cityโข limits. The closures stemmed from โฃaโค significant presence โคof protestors remaining inโข the area surrounding the legislative complex late into the night. Reports โfrom the scene indicated some demonstrators attempted to accessโค the toll road, prompting โthe closuresโค to maintainโข public safety and manage traffic flow. The ongoing demonstrations and resulting โคdisruptions impact commuters and regional trafficโข patterns,โ with potential for continued delays as the situation evolves.
As of 11:22 PM local time on โคAugustโ 30th, large groups of protestorsโ were observed on โJalan Palmerah Timur in Slipi,โ Jakarta. โPolice and military personnel โฃwere deployed to the area and โฃresponded to protestors who launched firecrackers in their direction and toward police barricades.
Authorities deployedโค tear gas in โan attempt to disperse theโข crowds,โฃ but protestors remained, continuing to occupy the roadway. Traffic in the vicinity was brought to โฃa โstandstill, with limited vehicleโ movement, including motorcycles travelingโฃ againstโ the flow of traffic from โขCawangโ toward Slipi.โ Jasa Marga reiterated it’sโ requestโค for drivers to utilize alternative routes.
