AMCโ Networks Cites Ad Revenueโฃ Decline Amid Streaming Subscriber Gains
NEW YORK -โ AMC Networks reported unchanged U.S. subscription revenue of $316 million for the most recent quarter, as growth in โขstreaming offset declines inโ affiliate revenue,โค the โcompany โannounced Friday. The report comes as the mediaโค firm navigates a shift from conventional cable to streaming, a transition led โฃby โCEO Kristin Dolan.
The โcompany attributed recent challenges โฃto “linear ratings โขdeclines and lower marketplace โฃpricing.” Despite this, AMC โคnetworks added streaming subscribers year-over-year, ending the quarter on September โ30 with 10.4โค million total subscribers-consistent with the 10.4โ million reported at the endโฃ of โฃJune. This figure compares to 10.2 million subscribers as of September 30, 2023.โ
However, the current subscriber count โขis down from the 11.8 million reportedโค in the year-ago quarter. โคThe company revised its subscriber โคcalculation methodology โearlier this year to reflect only those paying a direct fee for aโฃ streaming service,excludingโ those accessing services through bundled video packages.
Streaming revenue jumped 14 percent to $174 million, “primarily due to the impact โคof price increases across our services.” AMC Networksโ previouslyโข forecast streaming revenue toโ become its largest โsingle revenue component thisโค year, anticipating continued quarterly growth.
The company increasedโ itsโค full-year 2025 freeโ cash โflow outlook to approximatelyโค $250 million, citing “healthy” trends.Original series featured during the third quarter included season 3 of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, The Madame Blanc โฃMysteries on Acorn TV, Nautilus on AMC, and The Luckiest Man โฃin America โand Kidnapped on AMC+.
“Our performance inโ the third quarter โคmarks a key milestone in our transition from a cable networks buisness to a global streaming and technology focused content company,” โฃsaid Dolan. “Streaming revenue growthโข accelerated andโ will represent โour largest single source of โฃdomestic โrevenue this year.” She added, “We have โคbuilt the components of aโฃ modern media business that is nimble, independent and well suited to today’s surroundings and whatever comes next.”
