Coastal Storm Threatens Delaware with Coastal Flooding and High Winds

by David Harrison – Chief Editor October 12, 2025
written by David Harrison – Chief Editor

Coastal Flood Warning Issued for Delaware as Nor’easter Approaches

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – A coastal flood warning is in effect for Delaware as a nor’easter brings the threat of high tides and ⁣damaging winds to the First State. Residents are urged to prepare for potential ⁤impacts from flooding, ‍notably in low-lying areas, and to secure property against gusty winds expected through Sunday.

The combination of high tides and storm surge poses a notable risk to coastal communities. this event underscores Delaware’s vulnerability⁣ to nor’easters, powerful storms that develop along the Atlantic coast and frequently bring heavy precipitation, strong winds, and coastal flooding during the ‍fall and‍ winter months.

High tides in Rehoboth Beach are predicted as ⁤follows: Oct. 11 at 11:30 a.m., Oct. ⁣12⁢ at 12:17 a.m. and 12:36 p.m.,⁢ and ⁢Oct.⁢ 13 at 1:21 a.m. and 1:40 p.m.

Authorities⁢ advise residents to clear sensitive areas prone to flooding and be aware ⁤of roads that may become impassable along rivers, bays, and seashores. ⁣Staying ⁢updated with information from local ‌and state authorities is also crucial. Sussex ‌County ‌officials issued a statement on Oct. 10 recommending property ‌owners relocate vehicles from low-lying and flood-prone areas, secure loose objects, and clear storm drains and gutters.

In addition to coastal flooding, damaging winds‍ are a concern statewide. The Atlantic coast could experience gusts up to ⁤60 miles per hour, while Wilmington and⁤ Dover may‍ see gusts around 40 miles per hour.

Steady rain is also forecast, with coastal ⁤Sussex County potentially receiving up to ⁢2 inches of rain before the night of Oct. 13. Wilmington could receive around an inch of rain during the same period. However, forecasters ⁢indicate the prolonged duration of the rainfall lessens the ⁣immediate risk of flooding from precipitation.

East Naples Progress Plan ⁤Proposes Two 12-Story Buildings, New ⁤oakes Farms Market

EAST NAPLES, FL – A major redevelopment‌ project proposed for East Naples could dramatically alter the landscape off Davis Boulevard, bringing two 12-story buildings and a new Oakes⁤ Farms Market to the area. The project, spearheaded by Alfie ⁣Oakes in partnership with Naples resident Chris Bower, ‌is currently in the pre-application phase with Collier County.

the development would encompass three parcels: the former 1.17-acre Salvation Army thrift store site at 2255 davis Blvd., acquired by Bower’s Christopher J. Bower Living Trust for $6 million in December; the‌ former 1.68-acre grocery store site purchased for $7 million in November; and a 2.91-acre ⁤site at 1420 Brookside ⁤Drive, currently owned by a limited liability company tied to Alfie oakes.

Plans submitted to the county include a pedestrian bridge over Brookside Drive connecting the two 12-story structures.County staff have already raised ‌concerns⁤ regarding the potential impact of the development’s height on the adjacent single-family ⁤neighborhood, ‌particularly along the northern boundary of Brookside Drive, and have suggested a design that provides a smoother transition.

Oakes is developing the project with Chris Bower, who acquired the two parcels⁣ through his living trust in late 2024. RVi Planning + Landscape Architecture ⁤in bonita Springs is listed as the ‌applicant.Formal applications have not ⁤yet been filed with‌ Collier County.

Teen Girls Dead on NYC Subway After ‘Subway Surfing’ Trend

Two ⁣Teen Girls Found Dead on NYC Subway Tracks, subway Surfing Suspected

NEW YORK – Two teenage girls were found dead on the⁢ J train tracks in Brooklyn early Saturday, adn authorities suspect they were victims of subway surfing, the hazardous practice of riding on top of moving trains. The incident has reignited concerns‍ about the⁣ escalating ⁤trend among youth and prompted renewed calls for preventative measures.

The girls, whose identities have not yet been released, were discovered near the Williamsburg station around 4:30 a.m.‍ on October 4, 2025, according to police. Investigators believe they were attempting to ⁤subway surf ‌when they fell from the train. this tragedy marks the latest in a disturbing rise of subway surfing-related deaths and injuries in New York City.

Subway surfing, while not new, gained prominence in recent years, fueled in part by social media challenges. The NYPD began tracking incidents in 2022, after officials noted the trend’s emergence. Since than, at least nine people have died consequently of the practice – six in 2024 and ⁤five in 2023, with three additional deaths reported in 2025 prior to Saturday’s incident.Hours before ‍the⁤ discovery of the girls’ bodies, a 14-year-old boy was ‌hospitalized after falling from a Manhattan-bound 7 ⁣train in Queens.

City and state officials ‍launched a public details campaign in September 2023, titled “Subway Surfing Kills − Ride Inside, Stay Alive,” to deter the dangerous behavior. New York City has also taken legal action, suing five social media companies in February 2024, alleging they contribute to harm to⁢ youth mental⁣ health and facilitate the spread of subway surfing content.the NYPD has deployed drones to monitor subway lines as part of increased surveillance efforts.

The Metropolitan ‌Transit Authority (MTA)‍ has collaborated with platforms like TikTok and ⁣Instagram to remove videos depicting subway⁢ surfing, having taken down over 1,800 videos through June 2025. Despite these‍ efforts, the dangerous trend persists. Regular announcements warning against subway surfing are broadcast throughout the subway system, and recently, Bronx-born rapper Cardi B recorded public service announcements urging riders to stay safe.

The examination into Saturday’s deaths is ongoing. Authorities are urging parents and guardians to ⁣speak with their children about the extreme dangers of subway surfing.

U-M Medical Employee Rescued From‍ Stuck Elevator at ⁣C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital After 7-Hour Ordeal

ANN ARBOR, MI – ⁤ An employee of⁣ Michigan ⁢Medicine was safely rescued from a stalled elevator at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital on Tuesday, September 30,‌ after being⁤ trapped for ⁤approximately‌ seven hours. Ann Arbor firefighters utilized a rope system to bring the individual to safety by 11 a.m.

The rescue operation, wich began earlier ⁣that morning, was carefully planned ⁣to avoid potential damage to ⁣the hospital’s infrastructure and the elevator car⁣ itself, ⁢which could have resulted in⁤ costly repairs. According to Ann Arbor Fire department Battalion Chief Kevin⁣ kennedy, breaching⁤ the elevator shaft presented a ⁢notable risk. ⁤”We try to ⁤do everything we can to avoid⁣ damaging a car,”‍ Kennedy‍ said.

The⁢ employee⁣ remained calm throughout the incident, which aided in the decision ‍to‍ employ the⁢ rope rescue technique. Firefighters were ⁣lowered into the elevator shaft, secured the employee in a harness, and then raised them to the‍ 8th floor, the department stated in a Facebook post.

“There’s always a‌ degree of risk ⁤when you put people on rope,” Kennedy ⁤said. “I’m so proud of our crew.”

Two Tropical Systems Brew in Atlantic, Potential for Unusual “Fujiwhara Effect” – Florida Residents Urged to Monitor

West Palm Beach, FL ‍- September ⁣24, 2025 – Floridians are bracing for potential impacts from‌ two tropical systems currently ⁣churning in teh Atlantic Ocean. While a direct landfall in the Sunshine state is not currently predicted, meteorologists are advising residents from Florida to the Carolinas to closely monitor the ⁢developing situation. The systems, with a ⁣high probability of strengthening into cyclones, present⁤ a complex ⁣forecast intricate⁤ by their⁤ proximity adn the‍ possibility of a rare⁢ meteorological phenomenon.

One of⁤ the systems ‍has already been designated as Tropical Storm Humberto as⁢ of today, September 24th. The next storm ‌on the list is imelda, should the second system reach tropical storm status.

(Watch Video: gas, Electric auto ⁢prep: ⁣What to⁣ Know Ahead of the Storm, Evacuation) USA Today Florida Network’s John ⁣A. Torres and kimberly Miller‍ discuss ⁣essential preparations for yoru vehicles in the event of a potential evacuation.

Key Takeaways:

* Two systems brewing: Both systems have a high chance of developing into cyclones.
*⁢ No direct landfall expected (currently): A⁢ diving jet stream is expected to steer ⁢the systems away from Florida.
*⁤ Monitor closely: Residents from Florida to the carolinas should⁢ stay informed.
* ‍ Next names: Humberto and Imelda are the⁢ next names on the ⁣2025 hurricane list.

The unusual aspect of‌ this situation lies in ‌the potential for what’s known as the ‍ Fujiwhara Effect. ‍Typically observed⁤ with typhoons in ‌the western Pacific,⁣ this occurs when two ⁤cyclones are ⁢close enough that ‌they begin ⁢to rotate around each other. ⁤While a ⁣full “do-si-do” is unlikely, the systems are⁣ expected to interact,⁣ potentially ⁢influencing each ⁢other’s paths.

“Depending on where these tropical cyclones ‍form and how strong they become, one could get absorbed by ⁣the other, ⁣they could maintain independence, or they could dance around each other,” ⁢explains‌ link to Palm Beach Post article⁣ on hurricane season.

A diving⁣ jet stream over the southeast is currently forecast ‍to keep both systems from‍ making ‌a Sunshine State landfall. However, authorities emphasize ‌the importance of‍ preparedness.⁣
