Jakarta Governor finds Shell Stations Across Indonesia Remain Dry of Fuel
JAKARTA, October 6, โ2023 -โ Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan experienced firsthandโฃ the ongoingโ fuel shortages impacting private gas stationsโข across Indonesia during a visit to a Shell TB SPBU in Simatupang, South Jakarta, on Monday. Like numerous other stations nationwide, the Shell outlet wasโฃ fully out of stockโข of gasoline.
Baswedan inquired with โฃan employee on duty, Fikri, about the durationโ of the fuel โฃshortage.โข “I want โto stop by earlier,โ want to find gasoline for a motorcycle, howโ longโฃ hasn’t there been?” Baswedan โคasked, as documented โon his official Instagram account.
Fikri responded that โขthe station had been โคwithout fuel for approximately two weeks, shifting its focus to vehicle repair services, food, and beverage sales. โข”So it has been more or lessโ two weeks empty to today,” โขhe stated.
Theโ prolonged shortage has also impacted Shell employees, with working hours reduced from 22 to 15 days per month. Whileโ Fikri did not detail specific wage adjustments, he confirmedโ staff continue โto operate, prioritizing theโค sale of โคfood andโ drinks.
“Employees are reduced workingโข days, adjustments.โค So there are โฃworking hours and the number of working โdaysโ is limited,for โฃexampleโ 22 working days to 15 working โขdays. We are still working, but focus on foodโข now. Selling coffee and food โlike that,” Fikri explained.
Prior โto the shortages, theโ Simatupang station typically โคserved around 2,000 vehicles daily, with motorcycles โaccounting for 60% of the traffic. Fikri expressed hope for a swift returnโค to normal operations, stating, “The โhope is quickly returning again, Shell gasoline is there more. The hope is normal to return to normal, so that friendsโข can โฃwork normally again.”
As of Monday, all Shell gas stations โคthroughout Indonesia remain without fuel, including โshell Super, Shell V-Power, and V-Power Nitro+. A notice on the official Shell Indonesia website states, “Sorry Shell Superโ is not available at Shellโ gas stations until the time is uncertain.”
