Beta Film Launchesโค Sales on Frenchโ Crime Comedy, Past Drama, and U.S. Adaptation at MIPCOM
CANNES – Beta Film โฃis heading toโค MIPCOM with aโข diverse slate of international series,including the French social dramedy “A โคLovely Messโค – Rob the Rich,” the historical drama “Mozart Mozart,”โ the Canadian dramedy “Empathy,” and the U.S. adaptation “Velvet New York – The New Empire.”
“A โLovely Mess – rob theโ Rich,” aโ six-part series produced by paris-based Redstone for France Tรฉlรฉvisions, followsโ Justine (รlรฉonore Bernheim) and Rรฉmi (Gil โขAlma), a middle-aged couple who turn to burglary toโฃ maintain appearances as their family strives for social advancement. Written by Sarah Tissandier andโฃ directed by Stรฉphanie Pillonca, the show blends adventure, romantic comedy, and class satire, leaning intoโข the French TV tradition of “light crime.”
Also on offer is “mozartโข Mozart,” โฃa historical drama from Germany’s Story House Pictures and ARD. The seriesโค reimagines the life ofโค Wolfgang Amadeus โMozart through the eyes of his sister, Maria โขAnna,โ who assumes her brother’s identity toโค perform for Emperor Joseph II while navigating court life and a secret relationship with Salieri.
From Canada, โขBeta Filmโ will present “Empathy,” a multi-award-winning dramedy โcreated by Florence Longprรฉ.The โคseries centers on psychiatrist-criminologist Suzanneโค and her unconventional methods for treating โฃdangerous patients, alongsideโ colleague Mortimer. “Empathy” achieved Crave Canada’s highest-performing fiction debutโ and โขwon the Audience Award at Series โMania 2025.
Completingโ the lineup is “Velvet new York โ- The New Empire,” the U.S. adaptation of the Spanish hit “Velvet.”โข Set in the New Yorkโ fashion world, the series follows aโข young seamstress and a fashion heir as they navigate โlove,โ loss,โ and ambition.The series was โฃTelemundo’s #1 Spanish-language โฃprogram, attracting 1.29 million viewers and exceeding the network’s average viewership.
Beta Film will begin international sales at MIPCOM.
