Santiago, Chile – Authorities are scrutinizing the rapid release of Osmar Alexander Ferrer Ramírez, a Venezuelan national initially detained for the homicide of a merchant in the bustling Barrio Meiggs. The Western Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office has seized documentation and electronic devices from the 8th Guarantee Court of Santiago as part of an intensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ferrer Ramírez’s swift departure from custody.
The incident, which unfolded on July 10th, just one day after Ferrer Ramírez was ordered into preventive detention, has sent shockwaves through Chile’s judicial and executive branches. Prosecutors are examining irregularities in the process that led to the revocation of the precautionary measure, reportedly dispatched by the court mere minutes after the initial detention hearing concluded.
The West Prosecutor, Marcos Pastén, highlighted the alarming speed of the revocation order, stating it was issued “no more than 10 minutes” after the hearing. This rapid turnaround has triggered an emergency meeting of the Supreme Court with the Administrative Corporation of the Judiciary’s computer equipment division.
