james Cameron Predicts VR Will Revolutionize Cinema, Teases Future Avatar and Terminator Projects
Hollywood director James โฃCameron says virtual reality will fundamentally change how โคmovies and television are consumed, envisioning a โคfuture whereโ compact VR headsets deliver โคa theater-quality 3Dโค experience. Theโ filmmaker shared โฃhis insights while discussing โthe upcoming release of Avatar:โ The Way of Water and future installments in both the Avatar and Terminator franchises.
Cameron revealed the origins of key visual elements in the first Avatar film โขstemmed from a vivid dream he had, โimmediately sketching the glowing โขmoss-coveredโค landscape he envisioned. He added that โขhe simply filed those early drawingsโค away, asโ they eventually materialized in the finished movie. Currently, Cameron is already โat work on the fourth and fifthโ Avatar films, weeks before theโฃ December releaseโ ofโ Avatar: the Way of water.
“I thinkโ you’re gonna haveโ an emerging new platform, which is gonna beโ VRโข and it’s gonna be based on very small form factor, almost glasses,” Cameron said. “And they have the brightness and the resolution to be competitive with the theaterโ experience โคand they’re in 3Dโฆ this โwill become a new player in the landscape, a new way to consume.”
Theโ director’s comments came duringโฃ an interview โฃon ABC‘s 7.30, available to view on ABC iview and ABC TV.
