A quiet week for streaming premieres is punctuated by the arrival of several notable films and series across major platforms, including a recent installment in the popular thriller “The Night Agent” and the return of “The Last Thing He Told Me” after a nearly three-year hiatus.
“28 Years Later: The Bone Temple,” the latest entry in the post-apocalyptic horror franchise, debuted on demand this week, following its predecessor’s unexpected success. Directed by Nia DaCosta and written by Alex Garland, the film continues the story of a world ravaged by the rage virus, focusing on young Spike as he becomes entangled with a satanic cult led by Jimmy Crystal, played by Jack O’Connell. Ralph Fiennes returns as Dr. Ian Kelson, whose relationship with the infected Samson (Chi Lewis-Parry) takes a pivotal turn.
Park Chan-wook’s “No Other Choice,” a darkly comedic thriller adapted from Donald Westlake’s “The Ax,” also became available for streaming this week. Starring Lee Byung-hun as a family man driven to desperate measures after losing his job, the film blends black humor with chilling violence, showcasing Park’s signature visual style.
Prime Video launched “56 Days,” a series based on Catherine Ryan Howard’s novel, on Wednesday. The psychological thriller follows a woman, played by Dove Cameron, who becomes the prime suspect in the death of a man she met just 56 days prior, played by Avan Jogia. All eight episodes were released simultaneously.
HBO is presenting “Murder in Glitterball City,” a two-part documentary directed by Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato, based on David Dominé’s book about a murder in Louisville, Kentucky. The documentary explores the crime and the complex relationships surrounding it, premiering Thursday night on HBO and streaming on HBO Max.
Netflix added the third season of “The Night Agent” to its lineup on Thursday, with all ten episodes available for binge-watching. The season follows Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) as he investigates a Treasury agent who flees to Istanbul with sensitive information, leading him into a web of dark money and assassins.
Apple TV+ brought back “The Last Thing He Told Me” this week, nearly three years after its initial premiere. The second season follows Jennifer Garner’s Hannah Hall and Angourie Rice’s Bailey as they attempt to reunite their family after Owen (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) resurfaces following five years in hiding. The first episode debuted Friday, with subsequent episodes releasing weekly through April 10.
Netflix also unveiled the adult animated comedy “Strip Law” on Friday, created by Cullen Crawford and featuring a voice cast including Adam Scott, Keith David, Janelle James, Stephen Root, and Aimee Garcia. The series centers on an uptight lawyer who partners with a Las Vegas musician to tackle unusual legal cases.
Hulu debuted the fifth season of “Shoresy” on Saturday, continuing the story of Jared Keeso’s character as he defends a physical style of hockey against a more finesse-oriented European approach. All fan-favorite players return for the new season.
