Gene Hackman‘s Personal Collection, โIncluding Golden Globes, Heads to Auction
NEW YORK – More than 400 items from theโ estate of Academy Award-winning actor Gene Hackman will be auctioned by โBonhams next โขmonth, offering โคa rare glimpse into the life and careerโข of the celebrated performer. The sale includes three of Hackman’s Golden โglobes, along with artwork, scripts, and personal effects.
Hackman, who died February 26th atโค the ageโข of 95, โฃretired from acting two decades ago to pursue painting โand โwriting. The auction reflects both sides of his life,โ featuring paintings by masters โฃlike Wassily Kandinsky and Henri Matisse alongside works createdโ by Hackman himself during his โretirement. A bronze โคsculpture of his wife,โข Betsy Arakawa, โขwho died February 26th from hantavirus, is also among the items offered.โฃ Hackman’s โคdeath was later attributed to heart โคfailure aggravated by Alzheimer’s.
Beyond fine art, the auction โwill feature items offering a moreโ intimate look atโ the actor’s life,โข including a Seiko diving watch valued at approximately $600 and a dartboard starting at a $10 bid. Each โขGolden Globe is estimated โtoโข fetch between $3,000 and $5,000.
Hackman earned two Oscars for his roles in The French connection (1971) and Unforgiven (1992), โand starred in โiconic films such โas bonnie and Clyde, โค The Conversation,โ and โฃ Superman.
According to Bonhams, the auction aimsโ “to honor the life and work of one of the โgreat names of 20th century cinema, through the objects that marked his artistic and personal career.” The auction will be โขheld inโ three โคphases next monthโฃ andโ isโค expected to draw both โฃart collectorsโ and fans of the actor.
