A Savannah, Georgia teacher was killed Wednesday evening when a vehicle fleeing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) collided with her car, according to local authorities. Dr. Linda Davis, a special education teacher, died at the scene of the crash.

The incident began with a traffic stop initiated by ICE agents. Oscar Vásquez-López, the driver of the vehicle involved in the fatal collision, allegedly fled the stop, triggering a pursuit. Details surrounding the initial reason for the traffic stop have not been released.

The chase culminated in an intersection where Vásquez-López’s vehicle struck Dr. Davis’s car. Police confirmed that Vásquez-López was attempting to evade authorities at the time of the impact. Video footage of the chase, obtained by WJCL, shows the moments leading up to the collision.

Dr. Davis was a respected educator within the Savannah community. KRCR News reported she worked as a special education teacher. The loss has prompted an outpouring of grief from colleagues and students.

The Department of Homeland Security has acknowledged the incident, stating that the driver fled after the initial traffic stop. The agency has not yet released a full statement regarding the pursuit or its protocols for such situations.

As of Thursday evening, Vásquez-López remains in custody, facing charges related to the crash and the initial flight from law enforcement. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and further details are expected to be released as they become available. ICE has not responded to requests for comment regarding the specifics of the chase or the agency’s involvement.
