Man Utd vs Everton: Team News, Injuries & Carrick Update | Premier League 2024

written by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

Manchester United will be without Rasmus Højlund and Luke Shaw for their Premier League match against Everton on Saturday, February 24th. Manager Erik ten Hag confirmed the absences during a pre-match press conference, citing injuries to both players.

Højlund, a key attacking player for United, has been sidelined with a muscle injury. Ten Hag indicated the 21-year-old is “getting closer” to a return, but will not be available for the trip to Goodison Park. Shaw’s absence is also a blow to the team, with the left-back continuing his recovery from an unspecified injury.

The news comes after a challenging week for Manchester United, which included a 2-0 defeat to Everton in the FA Cup. That result has prompted discussion regarding the future of potential managerial targets, including Ruben Amorim, though Ten Hag remains in charge.

Michael Carrick, currently a first-team coach at United, has been praised for his impact since returning to the club. Carrick recently lauded the diversity within the Manchester United squad, following scrutiny surrounding comments made by Jim Ratcliffe regarding immigration policies. Carrick stated the club’s diversity is a “strength,” according to reports.

Carrick also recently described the Everton match as a “fresh challenge” for the team, emphasizing the demand to adapt to the opponent and the specific demands of the fixture. The match represents an opportunity for United to respond to their recent FA Cup loss and maintain their position in the Premier League table.

Adding to the narrative surrounding the club, reports have surfaced of a recent exchange between Carrick and former United captain Roy Keane. Details of the disagreement remain largely undisclosed, but it occurred ahead of the Everton match, adding another layer of complexity to the team’s preparations.
