Vilnius woman โReports Disturbing Encounter,Police respond to Reports โof Unstable Man
Vilnius,Lithuania – September 1,2023 – โขVilnius police responded to reports of a man โฃexhibitingโค disturbing behavior near Mindaugo Street on Friday,following a report from a woman who alleged he made unwanted sexual advances.
According to the woman’s account, the man approached her and engaged in inappropriateโ behavior. When she threatened to call the police, he reportedlyโ did not react. A security guard intervened, issuing a final warning: “You either retreat โคorโฃ I invite you to the police.” The man allegedly responded with dismissive defiance, stating, “Well, โif you play and don’t, โit’s okay, call that police.”
The woman โlater contacted the police and sharedโ her โexperience in a local social networking group, where others reported similar encounters, though it remains unconfirmed if these involved the same individual.At 1:38 p.m., Vilnius VPK received a report concerning an unfamiliar man, described as perhaps mentally โฃunstable โand behaving โinappropriately near shops on Mindaugo Street and the โคChinese โฃEmbassy.
Police arrived on the scene within six minutes, dispatching two units to investigate. However, theโค man was not located duringโ the search.
According โฃto Julia Samorokovskaya, Head of Communication Division at Vilnius VPK,โ the incident isโฃ being investigated under Article 481 of the Lithuanian Code of Administrative Offenses, which addresses minor public order violations, including offensive behavior in public places. Penalties for a frist offense range from โฌ30 to โฌ140, with repeat offenses carrying finesโข between โฌ140 and โฌ240, and potential requirements for participation in preventative programs related to health, resocialization, or behavioral change.
Additionally, โArticle โ284 of the Criminal Code, concerning public displays of disrespect or disruption of public order, could be applicable, carrying penalties โคof public works or โa fine.
