HOUSTON, Texas -โฃ Six students from McReynoldsโค Elementary School were hospitalizedโฃ Wednesday with heat-related illness after โa gas leakโ prompted the school’sโ evacuation in east โฃHouston, according to the Houston Fire Department. Crews responded โtoโ reports of โthe leak in โthe 5900 block of Market Street around 10:30โ a.m.
The evacuationโข underscores โthe potential health risks to students during emergency situations, notably prolonged exposure to โheat.While the โbuilding was โฃultimately deemed safe to re-enter by HFD, theโค incidentโข resulted โinโข six children requiring medical attention at Texas Children’s Hospital. SkyEye aerial footage โคshowed โคmaintenance crews working at the site of the leak. HFD estimates studentsโ were outside for over an hour while the situation was assessed.
