A one-year-old child died Friday morning after being struck by a truck at a Murphy Express gas station on Cortana Place in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred in the parking lot of the gas station, located near the site of the former Cortana Mall, according to a spokesperson for the Baton Rouge Police Department. Investigators stated the child was accidentally run over near the gas pumps.
Preliminary reports indicate the child fell from the bed of a pickup truck and was subsequently run over by a rear wheel, WBRZ reported. The child was transported to a local hospital where they were pronounced dead.
As of Saturday morning, the name of the child had not been released by authorities. The incident remains under investigation, police said. Both WAFB and KY3 News reported the details of the accident, confirming the child’s age and the location of the incident.
The Murphy Express is a gas station affiliated with Murphy Oil Corporation, operating within the parking lot of a Walmart store at 9340 Cortana Place, according to reporting from WAFB.
