Middle East Attacks: European Nations Consider Intervention & Iran Response Options

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor March 2, 2026
written by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

A drone strike on Dubai International Airport on Sunday halted all flights, as retaliatory attacks from Iran expanded beyond Israel and U.S. Military assets to include civilian infrastructure in Gulf states. The disruption at the major transit hub, combined with reported attacks in the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain, has prompted Gulf nations to discuss a coordinated response, according to reports from Yonhap News Agency and The Hankyoreh.

The attacks, described by Iranian state media as a response to a recent strike that killed a top Iranian commander, have targeted airports and other key infrastructure. UAE officials reported 165 ballistic missiles and 541 drones were launched from Iran, with 35 drones penetrating air defenses and causing at least three deaths, according to The Hankyoreh. Dubai International Airport, which handled approximately 92 million passengers last year, has suspended all operations indefinitely.

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) held an emergency meeting, strongly condemning Iran and signaling a potential military response. GCC foreign ministers stated they would take “all necessary measures,” a phrase interpreted by analysts as including the possibility of military action, Yonhap News Agency reported. The attacks represent a significant escalation of tensions in the region, raising concerns about a wider conflict.

Iran’s strategy appears to be aimed at broadening the conflict, potentially seeking to pressure the United States and Israel into de-escalation, according to a report in JoongAng Ilbo. By targeting Gulf states, Iran may be attempting to create a regional crisis that increases the pressure on its adversaries. This tactic, described as a “water ghost operation,” aims to exploit vulnerabilities and create instability, but has instead drawn strong condemnation from the targeted nations.

European nations with military bases and citizens in the region are reportedly considering intervention under the guise of protecting their nationals. The extent of potential European involvement remains unclear, but the attacks have prompted a reassessment of security postures.

News1 reported that Iran’s actions are also prompting discussions about potential strikes against Iranian military facilities. The UAE, in particular, has signaled a willingness to adopt a more “active defense” posture, potentially including direct targeting of Iranian assets.

As of Monday, no reports of casualties among expatriate Koreans in the region have been confirmed, though major Korean companies are reviewing evacuation plans for their employees, according to Yonhap News Agency. The situation remains fluid, with further escalation possible.

Free Towing Service on Busan’s Gwangan Bridge & 6 Other Sections

by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor February 26, 2026
written by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor

Busan City is implementing a modern emergency towing service for large vehicles on its key bridges and tunnels, effective immediately. The Busan Facilities Corporation announced on Thursday the launch of a free, 24-hour service designed to quickly clear stalled or accident-involved trucks and buses weighing over eight tons from critical transportation arteries.

The initiative addresses a significant problem: large vehicle incidents on structures like the Gwangan Bridge can cause disproportionately long traffic delays. According to data released by the Busan Facilities Corporation, accidents involving large vehicles account for approximately 24% of all incidents on the Gwangan Bridge, and resolving them takes up to 40 minutes longer than clearing accidents involving smaller cars. This disparity creates substantial congestion and increases the risk of secondary accidents.

The service will operate across seven key transportation corridors: the Gwangan, Namhang, and Yeongdo Bridges, as well as the Centum City and Shinseondae underground tunnels, and the Dongmyeong and Yeongdo overpasses. When a large vehicle becomes disabled or is involved in an accident, the Busan Facilities Corporation’s control center will be alerted through real-time monitoring and emergency patrol units. The corporation will then contact the vehicle’s owner to obtain consent for a tow.

Vehicles will be towed, free of charge, to the nearest safe location within a 10-kilometer radius. The Busan Facilities Corporation has partnered with specialized towing companies capable of reaching incident sites within 30 minutes. This rapid response is intended to minimize disruption and restore traffic flow quickly. The service was prompted by a recent incident involving a large trailer truck that caused significant delays during peak commuting hours, according to the corporation.

The Busan Facilities Corporation stated that the new service aims to alleviate the financial burden often associated with towing large vehicles, which previously led some drivers to attempt on-site repairs or wait for less expensive, but slower, towing options. The corporation is collaborating with relevant authorities to ensure the long-term sustainability of the program.

Seoul Home Deals Below Market Price Rise, Widening Gap

by Priya Shah – Business Editor February 20, 2026
written by Priya Shah – Business Editor

Recent real estate transactions in Seoul’s upscale districts of Jamshil and Dogok are occurring at prices 100 to 300 million Korean won (approximately $75,000 to $225,000 USD) below peak valuations, according to data released February 5, 2026. The shift indicates a growing divergence in the Seoul housing market, with properties valued below 1.5 billion won benefiting from increased buyer access to financing.

The price adjustments are particularly noticeable in high-complete apartment complexes. News1 Korea reported instances of “quick sales” where sellers have lowered asking prices by significant margins to attract buyers. While overall market activity remains selective, the availability of mortgages for properties under the 1.5 billion won threshold is creating a two-tiered system, favoring more affordable options.

This development follows a period of market volatility triggered by changes to land transaction regulations. In March 2025, the government and Seoul city authorities designated districts within Gangnam, Seocho, Songpa, and Yongsan as land transaction permit areas for six months, a move intended to curb speculative investment. The re-designation of these areas, and subsequent easing of restrictions, has had an immediate impact on pricing, with some properties in Jamshil experiencing overnight drops in listed prices of up to 300 million won, as reported by MK Business News.

The situation in Jamshil is further complicated by the anticipated redevelopment of the Jamshil Jugong 5th complex. According to a blog post on Naver, the potential for redevelopment has already driven up prices in that area, outstripping gains seen in Dogok’s Do곡렉슬 complex. The blog post highlights the disparity, noting that while both complexes have seen price increases, the Jamshil property is poised for more substantial growth due to the redevelopment prospects.

The price corrections are not uniform. Reports indicate that some sellers, particularly those in the highest price brackets, are resisting lowering prices despite a lack of buyer interest. This resistance is creating a situation where a segment of the market remains detached from the broader trend of price adjustments. A February 13, 2025 report in the Hankook Kyungje noted that properties listed above 2.7 billion won were failing to sell, leading to a shift in seller behavior.

The market’s sensitivity to regulatory changes and redevelopment plans underscores the complex interplay of factors influencing Seoul’s housing market. The current situation, characterized by price divergence and selective transactions, suggests a period of continued uncertainty for both buyers and sellers.

Veterinarian 이상훈 (Lee Sang-hoon) has been elected as the new president of the Busan Metropolitan Veterinary Medical Association, officials announced February 7th. Lee, the head of Geumbit Animal Hospital, secured 44.7% of the vote, defeating candidates 이영락 (Lee Young-rak) and 천병훈 (Cheon Byeong-hoon) in a three-way race during the association’s regular general meeting held at the Busan Lotte Hotel.

The election saw a turnout of approximately 45%, with 161 valid votes cast out of 358 eligible members. Lee received 72 votes, while Lee Young-rak garnered 58 and Cheon Byeong-hoon received 31.

In his pre-vote address, Lee emphasized the need to address divisions within the association, stating that the organization had previously focused on serving only one side. He pledged to foster a more inclusive and communicative environment for all members. “For the past decade, the Busan City Veterinary Association has continuously looked only at one side, at our side,” Lee said, according to a report from DailyVet. “the opposing side emerged. The Busan City Veterinary Association must be reborn.”

The election of Lee comes as other veterinary associations in South Korea are also undergoing leadership transitions and addressing internal dynamics. The Seoul Metropolitan Veterinary Association is preparing to hold its 27th presidential election on February 1st, utilizing an online voting system, with 황정연 (Hwang Jeong-yeon) and 이태형 (Lee Tae-hyung) as the candidates. The Seoul association’s election process will mirror that of the Korean Veterinary Medical Association, according to a statement from the Seoul Metropolitan Veterinary Association’s election committee.

Meanwhile, the Seoul Veterinary Association recently reached an agreement among candidates regarding the election process, agreeing to fully respect the decisions of the election committee to ensure fairness and smooth proceedings.
