Wang Xindi of China won the gold medal in the men’s freestyle skiing aerials final at the Milan Winter Olympics on Wednesday, February 20th, 2026. The victory marks a high point for the Chinese team, with multiple athletes advancing to the medal round.

The qualification round, held earlier in the day, saw both Wang Xindi and defending champion Qi Guangpu successfully advance to the final. Qi Guangpu topped the qualification standings with a score of 120.80 in his first jump, while Wang Xindi followed closely behind with 118.10, securing the second position. Li Tianma and Sun Jiaxu also qualified, making it a strong showing for the Chinese team, a feat described as a “group advantage” for the nation in the event.

In the final, Qi Guangpu initially ranked third after his first jump, scoring 121.68. Two Swiss competitors led after the first round with higher difficulty scores. Qi Guangpu improved his position in the second round, achieving a score of 119.91, placing him first in that round. Wang Xindi, Li Tianma, and Sun Jiaxu also progressed to the medal round, ensuring all four Chinese athletes remained in contention.

The medal round saw all six competitors attempt jumps with a difficulty coefficient exceeding 5.0, placing a premium on stability. Wang Xindi delivered a flawless jump, earning a score of 132.60 and securing the gold medal. Li Tianma claimed the bronze medal. Qi Guangpu, unfortunately, experienced a mistake during his final jump, receiving a score of 81 and finishing off the podium.

Notably, Wang Xindi is married to fellow Chinese athlete Xu Mengtao, creating a celebratory moment for the couple as they both achieved success at the Milan Winter Olympics. The Chinese team’s performance in the men’s freestyle skiing aerials demonstrates a strategic approach of combining both difficulty and stability in their routines.
