C&R Agency: Professional Recruitment Across Industries

by Priya Shah – Business Editor February 26, 2026
written by Priya Shah – Business Editor

In March 1990, a small office in a Tokyo apartment building became the birthplace of Creek & River Co., a professional agency initially focused on supporting creative professionals. Founded by Jun Kurosaki, who was then a freelance video director, the company’s origins were rooted in a desire to address a gap in the Japanese creative landscape.

Kurosaki established Creek & River during the beginning of the collapse of Japan’s bubble economy. He observed a disparity between the support systems available to freelance creatives in Japan compared to those in the United States, having participated in a US-Japan co-production. This experience exposed him to the existence of unions and agencies that advocated for creators, a structure largely absent in Japan at the time. The company’s name, according to Kurosaki, is derived from an experience during a documentary shoot in an African village, where he felt a stronger pull to address immediate needs than to pursue long-term, impactful filmmaking.

Initially concentrating on TV documentaries, Creek & River quickly expanded its scope. Today, the company, now part of the C&R Group, represents professionals in 50 different fields, extending beyond the original focus on TV, games, and web content. This expansion includes professionals in medicine, law, accounting, fashion, food, agriculture, and executive leadership roles. The C&R Group consists of 32 companies operating across 18 domestic and 4 international locations.

Creek & River’s evolution reflects a commitment to maximizing the “lifetime value” of the professionals it represents, going beyond simply securing individual projects. The company aims to facilitate long-term career development and provide support for its partners. In 2000, Creek & River became the first company listed on the NASDAQ Japan exchange.

The company recently launched a branding site, “Head Beyond the Limit,” to articulate its core vision and commitment to challenging boundaries in the professional services sector. C&R Group continues to pursue business creation by combining the expertise of professionals across various disciplines.

Okayama Hadaka Matsuri: 3 Men Unconscious, Crowd Crush Concerns

by Emma Walker – News Editor February 22, 2026
written by Emma Walker – News Editor

Three men participating in the annual Hadaka Matsuri (naked festival) in Okayama City, Japan, were left unconscious on Wednesday night, with a total of six attendees requiring hospitalization, local authorities reported. The incident occurred during the height of the festival’s most intense period, the争奪戦 (sōdatsusen) – a fierce scramble for sacred wooden sticks known as “shingi.”

The three unconscious men, aged 42, 47, and 58, were discovered within the densely packed crowd of participants, according to the Okayama East Police Station. All three were actively involved in the struggle for the shingi when they collapsed. Their conditions are currently unknown. The other three hospitalized men, whose ages were not immediately released, were able to communicate with first responders.

The West Daishi Temple Festival, as it is officially known, draws approximately 10,000 participants annually, all clad in minimal clothing – typically a loincloth (fundoshi). The festival culminates in the throwing of two shingi from the second-story “御福窓” (ofuku-mado) of the temple’s main hall. Participants believe that possessing a shingi will bring good fortune for the year.

The chaotic scramble for the shingi is a centuries-old tradition, designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan. However, the event has a history of injuries, and in 2007, a participant died after being trampled during the contest for the wooden sticks.

Organizers had deployed approximately 1,150 security personnel – including police, firefighters, and private security guards – to monitor the event and provide assistance. Firefighters stationed on the second floor of the main hall were tasked with observing the crowd for signs of distress and coordinating rescues via loudspeaker. Despite these precautions, the incident underscores the inherent risks associated with the festival’s intensely physical nature.

The West Daishi Temple Festival is held annually on February 21st as the concluding event of a Buddhist memorial service. The shingi themselves are approximately 4 centimeters in diameter and 20 centimeters in length, replacing earlier paper talismans that were easily damaged during the scramble.

Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the injuries and the cause of the three men’s unconsciousness. No further details have been released regarding their medical conditions or the specific location within the temple grounds where they were found.

Hong Kong Man Attacks Garbage Truck & Butcher Shop, Arrested for Assault & Criminal Damage

by Emma Walker – News Editor February 14, 2026
written by Emma Walker – News Editor

A 52-year-ancient man was arrested in Tsuen Wan, Hong Kong, on Friday afternoon after allegedly damaging a garbage truck with an assortment of weapons, including aluminum rods, a wooden stick, a watermelon knife and scissors. The incident unfolded in two stages, beginning on Chuen Lung Street and extending to a nearby frozen meat shop.

According to police reports, the man, identified by the surname Leung, initially used three aluminum rods, each approximately 90 centimeters long, and a 50-centimeter wooden stick to vandalize the truck around 1:00 PM. He then entered a frozen meat shop on Chuen Lung Street and stole a 30-centimeter watermelon knife and a 24-centimeter pair of scissors, returning to further damage the vehicle.

Garbage truck personnel contacted authorities following the second act of vandalism. Officers, some wearing tactical vests and helmets, responded to the scene and initiated a search. Leung was apprehended on Lin On Street and is currently in police custody.

Police have charged Leung with possession of offensive weapons and criminal damage. He was transported to Yan Chai Hospital for medical examination as part of the investigation. The case is being investigated by the third team of the Tsuen Wan District Criminal Investigation Department. The motivation behind the attack, initially suggested to be dissatisfaction with cleaning services, remains under investigation.

Shannie Yeung Reveals Divorce Reason & Chaotic Life Before 40

by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor February 14, 2026
written by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor

Former Miss Hong Kong Charlene Tse Ning revealed in a recent interview that she was deeply unhappy before the age of 40, attributing a period of turmoil to a lack of self-awareness and difficulties within her first marriage. The revelation came during a conversation with friend and media personality, Cherry Siu Huen, on Siu’s YouTube channel.

Tse, 61, founded her successful biscuit brand, “Cookie Quartet,” in 2008, which has since expanded to multiple locations and garnered international accolades for its signature butterfly cakes. She has previously stated her business generates nine-figure annual sales. Despite her professional success, Tse described her life prior to turning 40 as “a mess” and “chaotic,” marked by a sense of personal dissatisfaction and an inability to address underlying issues.

“I was very passive before,” Tse explained in the interview. “It wasn’t until I turned 40 that I really understood myself. I realized my previous life was a complete mess, very chaotic, and I was just unhappy. I couldn’t handle many things and felt trapped, unable to break free. That was the lowest point in my life.”

Tse’s first marriage was to Simon Cham Kian-hoon, with whom she has two daughters, Charlene Ning Tung and Ning Lok. The couple divorced in 2005. She later married Wong Tak-wai in 2010, and describes that marriage as happy and fulfilling. According to Tse, the breakdown of her first marriage wasn’t marked by dramatic conflict, but rather a quiet disconnect. “We didn’t even argue,” she said. “That was the worst part. If we had argued, I would have at least known what he was thinking. But there was no arguing, no cold war. It was just…suffocating. I would just eat and eat, and I don’t even know if I was depressed, but I didn’t take any medication. I just kept eating, and I got very fat.”

Tse stepped away from her television career with TVB in 1991 to focus on raising her daughters, and stated she did not enjoy acting. “I didn’t enjoy filming dramas, and naturally found it hard work,” she said. She described feeling lost and lacking direction during this period, and ultimately concluded that separation was the best course of action. She indicated that the decision to divorce was made when her daughters were older.

Tse also revealed plans to expand her business internationally, with potential locations in Taiwan, Singapore, and South Korea.

Fried Tofu Pockets: Easy Kimchi, Mochi & Cheese Recipe

by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor February 14, 2026
written by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor

A simple recipe involving stuffed and fried tofu pouches has gained traction in Japan, offering a quick and convenient meal or snack option. The dish, featuring fried tofu (aburaage) filled with mochi, kimchi, and cheese, is easily prepared using a toaster or frying pan.

The preparation involves cutting the aburaage in half lengthwise, then filling it with a combination of sliced mochi, cheese, and kimchi. The kimchi is lightly drained before being added to the pouch. The filled aburaage is then cooked, either in a toaster for approximately ten minutes on a medium setting, or in a frying pan.

Online recipe platforms like Kurashiru and Cookpad feature variations of the dish, with both sites emphasizing its ease of preparation and suitability as an appetizer or snack. One recipe originator noted the idea came about due to having leftover mochi. BuzzFeed Japan highlighted the recipe as a quick meal requiring minimal effort, simply involving stuffing the ingredients into the aburaage and cooking.

The popularity of this cooking method extends to other fillings beyond kimchi and cheese. Articles suggest variations including tuna mayonnaise, and other combinations designed to create flavorful and easily prepared meals. A broader trend of utilizing aburaage as a vessel for fillings, whether baked or fried, appears to be growing in popularity, with numerous recipes focusing on this simple technique.

As of February 14, 2026, searches for “oil pouch mochi cheese kimchi” recipes continue to trend on Japanese cooking websites, indicating sustained interest in the dish.
