OpenAI to Spend $600B on Computing by 2030, Eyes Trillion-Dollar Valuation | CNN Business Arabic

OpenAI is now targeting roughly $600 billion in total compute spending through 2030, a significant reduction from previous estimates, as the artificial intelligence company prepares for a potential initial public offering that could value it at up to $1 trillion, sources familiar with the matter said Friday.

The revised spending plan, disclosed to investors, replaces an earlier figure of $1.4 trillion in infrastructure costs that CEO Sam Altman had discussed last year, according to reports from CNBC, MSN and the Economic Times. OpenAI’s shift comes as it seeks to align its capital expenditures with projected revenue growth.

The company anticipates exceeding $280 billion in total revenue by 2030, with roughly equal contributions from its consumer and enterprise divisions. This projection follows a strong 2025 performance, where OpenAI generated $13 billion in revenue, surpassing its initial $10 billion forecast, while keeping spending under control at $8 billion against a $9 billion target.

The adjustment in OpenAI’s financial outlook coincides with a major fundraising effort, including a prospective $30 billion investment from Nvidia. This investment is part of a larger funding round exceeding $100 billion, which would value OpenAI at approximately $830 billion, potentially marking one of the largest private capital raises in history. Strategic investors like SoftBank and Amazon are also reportedly participating in the funding round, according to Benzinga.

OpenAI’s annualized revenue run rate exceeded $20 billion in 2025, representing a 233% increase from the previous year. However, the company also experienced a fourfold increase in expenses related to running its AI models – known as inference – in 2025, leading to a decline in its adjusted gross margin to 33% from 40% in 2024, The Information reported.

Altman had previously stated OpenAI’s commitment to spending $1.4 trillion to develop 30 gigawatts of computing resources, enough to power approximately 25 million U.S. Homes. The company, founded in 2015 as a non-profit AI research lab, gained prominence following the 2022 release of its chatbot, ChatGPT.
