Szoboszlai’s strike garnered nearly 70 percent of the vote, surpassing competition from Rio Ngumoha, whose goal against Newcastle United in a 100-minute win also received nominations. the win marks a notable moment for Szoboszlai, who has quickly established himself as a key player for Liverpool since joining the club.
The goal itself was a remarkable display of technique, with szoboszlai curling a free kick past Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya. Following the match, Szoboszlai told reporters that while he practices free kicks, this one was from a slightly further distance than usual, but he felt confident in taking the shot.
Previously, Trent Alexander-Arnold was Liverpool’s designated free-kick taker, but Szoboszlai sensed an opportunity. He noted he didn’t practise free kicks extensively in training, but recognized the need to add power to his strike, acknowledging that a slight change in trajectory could have been saved by raya.
Szoboszlai later told M4 Sport that the goal ranks among the five most important of his career, emphasizing the meaning of scoring against a top rival like Arsenal.
Adding to his accolades, Szoboszlai was also selected as the Premier League’s Player of the Match for that week, as determined by a vote on the Premier League website.
