Synchronized Swimming Duo, the De Brouwer Sisters, Announce Retirement After paris Olympics
Paris – Dutch synchronized swimming twins Noortje and Bregje de Brouwer, 26, have announced their retirement from the sport following their participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The pair, who began synchronized swimming at age four, will conclude a career defined by their unique twin connection and dedication to the sport.
The sisters’ decision marks the end of a remarkable journey that saw them rise through the ranks of synchronized swimming, fueled by a shared passion ignited while watching their sister and niece. Their story resonates within the sport, were twins are often sought after for their inherent synchronization. the De Brouwers’ retirement comes after a period of challenge, including an injury to their sister, and solidifies their commitment to finishing their competitive careers together.
Noortje and Bregje were quickly identified for their potential by swimming coaches. “They thought: bring in!”, Bregje recalled, referencing a story shared last year regarding the advantages twins bring to synchronized swimming. They began training immediately after earning their B swimming diploma.
The pair’s bond was tested when their sister experienced a shoulder injury, prompting Bregje to consider continuing solo. However,she ultimately decided that their journey was best completed as a duo. “When Norwegian was out for a while, I noticed that I either want to continue with Noor, or we will stop together. And in Paris the circle is made,” she stated.
Noortje added, “Yes, they thought, just come here, we want that. And we loved water.We prefer to lie in it right away.After our B diploma we immediately started.”
