Baton Rouge, LA – Susan Shuey (née Harmon), age 77, of Kaplan, louisiana, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026. Susan Elizabeth Harmon was born on November 12, 1948, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to parents George and Elizabeth Harmon.
Shuey dedicated her life to education, serving as a beloved elementary school teacher for over 30 years in Vermilion Parish.She touched the lives of countless students, fostering a love of learning and a sense of community within her classroom. Colleagues remember her as a dedicated professional and a warm, supportive friend.
Beyond her professional life, Susan was an active member of the Kaplan community. She volunteered regularly at the local library and was a devoted member of the First united Methodist Church. Her passions included gardening, reading, and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Robert Shuey; her son, David Shuey and his wife, Emily; her daughter, Lisa Broussard and her husband, Mark; and four grandchildren, Ethan, Olivia, Abigail, and Jacob. She is also survived by her brother, George Harmon Jr. and his wife, carol.
A memorial service was held on january 18, 2026, at the First United Methodist Church in Kaplan, Louisiana.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Kaplan Public Library https://www.kaplanlibrary.org/ or the First United Methodist Church https://www.fumckaplan.org/ in susan’s memory.
