Susan Collins Leads Troy Jackson in New Maine Senate Poll
Senator Susan Collins is in a tight race with her Democratic challenger, Troy Jackson, in polls as the Maine Senate race enters its final six weeks before the 2026 midterms. The contest is described as one of the most competitive and closely watched races of the election cycle.
FBI Probe Allegations
The race has been impacted by a report from ProPublica alleging that the FBI attempted to launch a probe into Senator Collins‘ dealings with a major campaign donor. According to the investigation, the effort to probe the senator was abandoned following the return of President Donald Trump to office.
The report centers on alleged interactions with Martin Kao, the CEO of Navatek, a military contractor based in Hawaii. ProPublica reported that Scott Reed, a representative from Collins’ super PAC, met with executives to solicit a $500,000 donation. The report further alleges that Kao told executives that Collins committed to securing $32 million in contracts for the company, and that an initial $150,000 donation was funneled to the PAC via a shell company. ProPublica noted that Kao has “credibility issues” and was indicted in 2022 for making illegal campaign contributions.
Campaign Responses
Troy Jackson responded to the ProPublica report by accusing Collins of “corruption of the highest order.” In a statement provided to Newsweek, Jackson claimed, “We deserve answers about every contract and every conversation that Collins and her team facilitated on the backs of taxpayers,” adding that “The jig is up.”

The office of Senator Collins has denied the report. Annie Clark, deputy chief of staff for Collins, stated that the claims are “categorically false” and asserted that the campaign was never the target of an FBI investigation, nor have there been any allegations of wrongdoing by the campaign.
