Survivor 50: Premiere Date, Cast, Idol Hunt & Road to 50 Episodes Revealed
“Survivor” fans across the United States are embarking on a real-world scavenger hunt for hidden Immunity Idols as CBS prepares to premiere the landmark 50th season of the reality competition series on February 25th.
The “Survivor 50 Challenge,” launched January 30th, involves clues posted online directing participants to a hidden idol in each of the 50 states. Twenty-two idols have already been claimed, with the final clue for New York scheduled to drop on February 22nd, according to survivor50challenge.com.
The hunt coincides with a ten-day marathon of classic “Survivor” episodes, dubbed “Road to 50,” which began Monday, February 9th. The episodes feature returning players who will be competing in the upcoming season, including Cirie Fields, Dee Valladares, and Benjamin “Coach” Wade. Monday’s premiere featured a memorable episode of “Survivor: Micronesia – Fans vs. Favorites” where Erik Reichenbach was tricked into handing over his immunity necklace, ultimately leading to his elimination.
CBS is using the marathon and idol hunt to build anticipation for “Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans,” which will premiere with a three-hour episode – the longest non-finale episode in the show’s history. The season will feature 24 returning players spanning the show’s 25-year run, including Jenna Lewis from the first season and Savannah Lurie and Rizo Velovic from the most recent season. Three former winners – Dee Valladares, Kyler Fraser, and Lurie – will also compete.
The premiere will feature a unique format, with each of the three tribes represented by a past winner. The show’s host, Jeff Probst, has hosted every season since its debut in the summer of 2000.
A watch party and concert hosted by Wisconsin resident and three-time “Survivor” contestant Andrea Boehlke is scheduled for March 11th at The Falcon Bowl in Milwaukee. Boehlke will be joined by “Survivor 50” contestant Benjamin “Coach” Wade, “Survivor” icon Jerri Manthey, and “Survivor 46” contestant Ben Katzman. Tickets went on sale February 9th.
