Triple Eight Race Engineering completed its initial engine run of a newly built 5.4L Ford Coyote engine this week, marking a significant step in the team’s transition to Ford’s official homologation partner for the 2026 Repco Supercars Championship.
The engine, built by Triple Eight Powertrains, was installed in one of three brand-new Ford Mustangs currently being assembled at the team’s facility. These Mustangs will be piloted by Red Bull Ampol Racing drivers Broc Feeney and reigning champion Will Brown, as well as a customer chassis for SCT Motorsport and rookie Jackson Walls.
This development follows KRE Race Engines’ decision to remain aligned with General Motors and Chevrolet Racing, prompting Triple Eight to bring its engine program in-house. The shift represents a move from Chevrolet’s 5.7L single camshaft V8 to Ford’s 5.4L quad camshaft Coyote engine.
SCT Motorsport, having switched from Brad Jones Racing to Triple Eight’s Mustang program, will field rookie driver Jackson Walls in the #11 Objective Racing Mustang. Walls, who previously competed in Porsche Carrera Cup Australia and Super2, will participate in a shakedown at Queensland Raceway next week, followed by a rookie test.
“What we have is an unreal moment for me, my first look at the new car, it looks awesome,” Walls said. “Huge thanks to the team here at Triple Eight building it and all the sponsors that have come on board to make this whole thing happen. Can’t wait to start the season and get on track next week at Queensland Raceway with the crew.”
Triple Eight’s return to Ford officially begins at the DUNLOP Sydney 500, scheduled for February 20-22. The team will conduct shakedowns of all three cars at Queensland Raceway next week, preparing for the season opener.
