ICE to Deploy Agents at Super Bowl LX, DHS Official Criticizes Halftime Performer
Santa Clara, CA – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents will be deployed at Super Bowl LX in Santa Clara, california, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced Wednesday. The planned deployment comes as DHS special adviser Corey Lewandowski publicly criticized the NFL’s selection of Bad Bunny as the halftime show performer.
Lewandowski, speaking on The Benny Show, stated, “It’s so shameful that they’ve decided to pick somebody who just seems to hate America so much to represent them at the halftime game.” His comments stem from Bad Bunny’s criticism of the current administration, despite the artist - formally known as Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio – being an American citizen originally from Puerto Rico. Bad Bunny has previously avoided U.S. tour dates citing concerns about ICE presence at his concerts.
The DHS official further emphasized the administration’s enforcement stance, stating, “There is nowhere that you can provide safe haven to people in this country illegally. Not the Super Bowl and nowhere else. We will find you. We will apprehend you. We will put you in a detention facility, and we will deport you.” He contrasted this approach with previous administrations.
The announcement and Lewandowski’s remarks arrive as the NFL and ESPN seek approval for a proposed media merger that would grant the NFL a 10% ownership stake in ESPN. This, coupled with Disney’s recent reinstatement of Jimmy kimmel after political pressure, may complicate the approval process, perhaps testing the administration’s willingness to approve the deal.
