Scientists have developed a new method to break down harmful “forever chemicals” by exposing them to a sunlight-activated material [[1]]. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are chemicals found in manny household products including cookware, cosmetics, dental floss and waterproof clothing [[1]]. These chemicals are known for their persistence, taking thousands of years to break down, leading to accumulation in the environment and our bodies [[1]]. PFAS have been used since the 1940s and were initially valued for their nonstick properties, but are now linked to various health impacts, including increased risks of autoimmune disease, developmental disorders [[1]].
