Key Highway Construction Projects and Expected Disruptions
Several major routes will be affected by construction throughout the summer months. Here’s a breakdown of the expected disruptions:
E40 Brussels – Ostend
Bridge placement in Drong requires the E40 closure in both directions between Aalter and Sint-Denijs-westrem on Saturday night, june 28, Monday night, June 30, and Tuesday night, July 8, each time starting at 9 PM. Expect severe delays.
From tuesday, July 22, to Sunday, August 10, soundproof asphalt will be laid in Aalst. Traffic will run in both directions over two narrowed lanes, causing severe nuisance, especially during rush hour and coastal traffic surges.
E17 Antwerp – Kortrijk/France
Road surface renewal between Sint-Niklaas and pair from Friday, June 27, to Monday, July 14, will result in two narrow lanes available in each direction. Expect severe delays, particularly during peak times.
Bridge renewals at the French border in Rekkem from Monday, June 30, to Friday, July 4 (direction France) and from Monday, July 7, to Thursday, July 10 (direction Kortrijk/Ghent/Antwerp) will leave only one lane available.
Between Beervelde and Lokeren, road surface renewal from Saturday, August 16, to Sunday, August 31, will force traffic onto two narrowed lanes in each direction, leading to significant delays.
E411 Brussels – Namur
Innovation work at Jesus-Eik will reduce traffic to one lane in the direction of Namur during the night from Tuesday, July 3, to Wednesday, July 4, between 11 PM and 6 AM.
The highway will be completely closed in both directions during the night from Saturday, July 5, to Sunday, July 6, between 8 PM and 9 AM, causing severe disruptions.
R1 Antwerp Ring
Concrete repairs in the Kennedytunnel from Saturday evening, July 5 (9 PM), until Monday morning, July 7 (5 AM), will reduce traffic to one lane in each direction until Sunday morning at 8 AM. Afterward, traffic to Ghent will have one lane, while traffic to the Netherlands will be unrestricted. expect severe delays.
From Friday evening, August 22, to Monday morning, August 25, work related to the Oosterweel project will cause significant hindrance on the Antwerp Ring towards the Netherlands and on the E313 loop in the direction of Ghent from the Antwerp east junction.
E313 antwerp – Hasselt/Liège
From Monday, august 4, to the end of September, noise barriers will be placed at Grobbendonk.Traffic will run in both directions over two narrowed lanes between Massenhoven and Herentals-West.
E34/N49 Antwerp – Knokke -Heist
Until the end of August (Sunday night until Thursday night),the zelzatetunnel on the E34 will be closed in the direction of Knokke for new lighting installation. Closures will occur five nights every week,from Sunday night to Thursday night,between 8 PM and 5 AM. No closures are scheduled during the construction leave from July 18 to August 9. From September, work will shift to the tube towards Antwerp.
During the conversion of the express road N49 into a motorway, traffic between Maldegem and Damme will continue to run in both directions over one lane, perhaps causing file formation on busy summer days.
