Studiocanal Launches dedicated Theatre Division, ‘Studiocanal on Stage’
LONDON – Studiocanal is expanding into live theater with the launch of ”Studiocanal on Stage,” a new label dedicated to developing stage adaptations of its extensive film and television catalog. The launch coincides with the opening of Paddington: The Musical at London’s Savoy Theatre, a production already generating significant buzz and booked through may.
Led by EVP Global productions Ron Halpern, Studiocanal on Stage will focus on exploiting the studio’s catalog of over 9,400 titles from 60 countries, spanning 100 years of film history. This move reflects a broader industry trend of studios leveraging intellectual property across multiple platforms and formats. Studiocanal already operates “Studiocanal Stories” for literary adaptations and “Sixth dimension” for horror content, establishing a clear framework for expanding its storytelling reach.
Paddington: The Musical‘s success is anticipated to be one of the biggest West End hits of the year, recently garnering attention with a backstage visit from Prince William and Kate Middleton. Other current theatrical projects under the Studiocanal umbrella include an extended run of The Producers at the Garrick Theatre through September of next year, a Scottish tour of Restless natives, Summer Holiday at the Sheffield Crucible, and A Boy Called Christmas at the Chichester Festival Youth Theatre.
“This new label strengthens our strategy to develop and extend our IP across multiple formats,” said Studiocanal boss Anna Marsh. “Alongside Studiocanal Stories and Sixth Dimension, this gives us a clear framework to grow our catalog and bring our stories to new audiences.”
