Stromae Covers Kenshi Yonezu’s “Spinning Globe” From “The Boy and the Heron”
Belgian-Rwandan singer Stromae has released a Japanese-language cover of Kenshi Yonezu’s “Spinning Globe,” the theme song from Hayao Miyazaki’s 2023 animated film, The Boy and the Heron. Stromae shared a video of the performance on his Instagram account on Monday, March 23, 2026, marking his first post to the platform since November of last year.
In the Instagram post, Stromae stated he had been learning the song for several months before deciding to share it with his followers. “Ça fait quelques mois que j’apprends cette chanson et je voulais la partager avec vous,” he wrote. The song, titled “Chikyugi 地球儀 (Spinning Globe)” in Japanese, originates from the soundtrack of Miyazaki’s latest film, which was released in Japan in July 2023 by Toho.
The release follows a period of health-related challenges for the artist. Stromae was forced to cancel a portion of his 2022-2023 “Multitude” tour due to medical reasons, citing the need to prioritize his well-being. He communicated this decision to fans in a statement, explaining he needed to respect his physical limits and focus on recovery.
Prior to the “Spinning Globe” cover, Stromae had returned to music with collaborations including “Ma meilleure ennemie,” a duet with Pomme for the soundtrack of the Netflix series Arcane, and “Que ce soit clair” with DJ Paul Kalkbrenner. He also recently appeared onstage with Orelsan on March 12, 2026, to perform their collaborative track “La pluie,” celebrating his 41st birthday with the artist and the audience.
“Spinning Globe” was written and performed by Kenshi Yonezu specifically for The Boy and the Heron, with the film’s score composed by Joe Hisaishi. The film itself has grossed over $294.2 million worldwide.
