Strapontin Theater Celebrates 30 Years of Cultivating a Passion for the Stage
For three decades, the Strapontin Theatre, founded in 1995, has been a vibrant force in the Pays de la Loire region, dedicated to making theatre accessible and fostering a love for the performing arts within the community. From its inception, the theatre has prioritized both training and transmission of theatrical knowledge, offering workshops designed for children, adolescents, and adults alike.
The theatre’s beliefs centers around the joy of play, rigorous training, and the passing on of skills. This commitment has resonated deeply, with nearly 1,000 individuals having graced the Herbretaise stage and stages across the wider region over the past 30 years. Professional instructors lead all workshops, ensuring a high standard of education and mentorship.
Strapontin’s impact extends beyond simply providing a platform for performance. Many participants have gone on to pursue professional careers in the arts – as actors, technicians, and programmers – with some achieving significant recognition, including prestigious Molière Awards. The theatre also proudly celebrates the achievements of its dedicated amateur performers who have garnered awards of their own.
The company’s dedication to quality extends to all aspects of its work, from workshop instruction and staging to participation in festivals and active engagement with local events. This commitment has solidified strapontin’s position as an essential cultural institution within the territory.
Today, Strapontin boasts a membership of over 120, with a particularly encouraging statistic: half of its members are under the age of 18, ensuring the future vitality of the theatre.
To mark this significant milestone, the Herbretaise association is hosting a celebratory weekend of performances at the Pierre Barouh theatre. The festival will showcase both amateur and professional troupes, offering a diverse program for theatre enthusiasts. The festivities will also extend beyond the theatre walls, featuring the 70th performance of the company’s beloved and iconic “traffic jam” event in Petit-Bourg.
