Stranger Things Characters Reimagined as Mafalda Cartoon
An artificial intelligence program has reimagined the characters of Netflix’s “Stranger Things” in the style of the iconic Argentine comic strip, *Mafalda*, according to a report published March 19, 2026, by TyC Sports.
The AI-generated artwork blends the simple, expressive, and often critical aesthetic of *Mafalda*, created by cartoonist Quino, with the popular characters from the science fiction horror series. The resulting images depict the characters with more caricatured features – smaller eyes, simpler lines, and expressive gestures – while maintaining their original identities. The reimagining places the characters in everyday, urban settings, a departure from the series’ usual backdrop of supernatural terror, TyC Sports reported.
“Stranger Things” premiered on Netflix in July 2016 and has spanned five seasons, concluding in December 2025, following a group of children in Hawkins, Indiana, as they confront supernatural forces. The series is set chronologically between 1983 and 1987, tracking the characters’ maturation alongside escalating threats from an alternate dimension. The cast includes Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Cara Buono, and Matthew Modine.
Hawkins High School’s basketball team, known informally as “The Tigers,” also appears to have been subject to the AI’s stylistic treatment, though specific depictions were not detailed in the TyC Sports report. The team, captained by Jason Carver in 1986, included players such as Patrick McKinney, Chance, Lucas Sinclair, Andy Harper, and Josh, and functioned as a social group both within and outside of school hours.
The AI transformation extends beyond mere aesthetics, conceptually aligning the “Stranger Things” protagonists with the reflective and often philosophical scenarios typical of Quino’s work. The TyC Sports article did not detail the specific software or methodology used to generate the images.
