Hatters Push North Texas to Four Sets in Miami
MIAMI – The Stetson Hatters volleyball team battled to four sets before falling to North Texas 3-1 on Friday in Miami. Stetson demonstrated resilience throughout the match,pushing a strong north Texas team to the limit.
The Hatters started strong in the first set, trading points with North Texas before a late surge from the Mean Green secured a 28-26 victory. Stetson again jumped ahead early in the second set, leading 5-3, but North Texas closed it out 25-21.
stetson found its rhythm in the third set, overcoming an early deficit with back-to-back aces from Emma Bury to tie the score.Strong play from xinlei Yang and Lilyanna Parker propelled the Hatters to a 25-23 win, leveling the match. However, North texas responded with a late run in the fourth set to take the set 25-18 and the match.
Yang led the Hatters with 14 kills, finishing with a team-high 16.5 points. Bury contributed 11 kills and a match-high four service aces, also totaling 16 points. Nyah Molina anchored the offense with 35 assists and two aces. Jenna Simmons added critical blocks, while Xinlei Yang delivered key swings.The Hatters (0-4) return to action on September 12, taking on Quinnipiac at TD Arena in Charleston, S.C. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
