Sterling vs. Zalal: UFC Fight Night Headlines at Meta Apex | UFC
LAS VEGAS – Former UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling will face Youssef Zalal in a featherweight bout headlining UFC Fight Night on April 25 at the Meta APEX, the promotion announced Tuesday.
The fight, initially scheduled as a five-round main event, represents a significant opportunity for both fighters. Sterling (23-3) is looking to solidify his position as a contender in the 145-pound division after a dominant win over Brian Ortega last August, according to MMA Fighting. He has expressed frustration with the pace of securing fights following that victory.
Zalal (11-4-1) enters the bout on an impressive eight-fight win streak, highlighted by a 98-second submission victory over Josh Emmett in October, as reported by Tapology. The Moroccan-born fighter aims to continue his ascent towards a potential title shot.
The card was originally slated to feature a matchup between Sean Brady and Joaquin Buckley, but that bout has been replaced by the Sterling-Zalal contest. The reason for the change in the main event has not been disclosed.
Also scheduled for the April 25 event are several other bouts, including a women’s bantamweight matchup between Norma Dumont and Joselyne Edwards, as well as contests featuring Davey Grant, Montel Jackson, Talita Alencar, Rodolfo Vieira, Jafel Filho, Mayra Bueno Silva, and Jackson McVey, according to the UFC’s official event page.
Sterling’s move to featherweight has included a win over Calvin Kattar and a competitive decision loss to Movsar Evloev. Zalal has also secured victories over Kattar and Jack Shore during his current winning streak.
