Sterling Point Ending Explained: Do Annie and Ramona Sell the Island?

August 8, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

An Unexpected Inheritance and a Journey to Canada

The eight-episode coming-of-age streaming series Sterling Point dropped on Prime Video on August 5. At its core, the show centers on 17-year-old protagonist Annie Jacobson and her newly discovered sister Ramona. Instead of selling the Canadian island left to them by their late grandfather, the sisters make a striking choice: they swap lives. Annie stays on the island, while Ramona moves to New York.

Created by My Old Ass director Megan Park, the series follows New Yorker Annie Jacobson, played by Ella Rubin, as she travels to Canada. She makes the trip alongside her twin brother Connor, played by Keen Ruffalo, and their adoptive father Steven, played by Jay Duplass. This journey forces the family to confront a complicated history after Annie discovers a sister she never knew existed.

The Genetic Revelation Behind the Sisters’ Decision

The central dilemma of whether to sell the inherited property ultimately dissolves through a genetic realization. Ramona discovers that Steven—not Joe—is her biological father. She notices they share colorblindness and secures a DNA sample that confirms the revelation.

Annie urges Ramona to stay on the island to build a unified family life. Yet, the final episode reveals that Ramona chooses to leave for Manhattan, waking up in Annie’s New York bedroom.

A Curated Indie Soundtrack and Final Geographical Split

Beyond the central family narrative, the series incorporates a prominent indie and alternative soundtrack. The production features musical contributions from major artists including Olvia Dean, Lana Del Rey, Olivia Rodrigo, and Wolf Alice.

With all eight episodes now streaming globally, the series leaves viewers with a distinct geographical split: Ramona is placed in the urban landscape of New York City, while Annie continues her life at Sterling Point, memorably shown jumping into the local lake in the closing moments of the season.
