Stephen Curry Injury Update: Return Timeline & Warriors Play-In Outlook
Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry is expected to rejoin team practices in the coming days, offering a potential path to return from a knee injury that has sidelined him for the past 20 games. The team announced Saturday that Curry, who was re-evaluated, is making “excellent progress” and will be incorporated into live action and team practices.
While a firm return date remains uncertain, the Warriors’ schedule allows for a possible return as early as Wednesday night’s game against the Brooklyn Nets at Chase Center. Golden State is currently completing a six-game, nine-day road trip, with games scheduled Saturday in Atlanta and Monday in Dallas, both of which Curry will miss.
The Warriors have struggled significantly in Curry’s absence, posting a 10-21 record compared to a 23-16 mark with him on the court. Since Curry last played on January 30, the team’s record has fallen to 6-14. Golden State (33-37) currently sits 10th in the Western Conference standings, trailing the ninth-place Los Angeles Clippers by one game and the eighth-place Portland Trail Blazers by 1½ games.
The NBA’s play-in tournament looms for the Warriors, with 12 regular season games remaining. Finishing seventh or eighth in the conference standings secures two chances to earn a playoff berth, while ninth and tenth-place teams face single-elimination scenarios.
Curry, who turned 38 on March 14, was enjoying a strong season prior to the injury, averaging 27.2 points per game – on pace for the fifth-highest average of his 17-year career and his highest since the 2022-23 season.
The Warriors face the possibility of finishing with a losing record for the first time since the 2019-20 season, when injuries to Klay Thompson and Curry contributed to a league-worst 15-50 record. That season as well marked the only losing record during Steve Kerr’s 11 seasons as head coach. A loss Saturday night in Atlanta would mark the first time the Warriors have been five games under .500 in over two years; they were 19-24 on January 27, 2024.
In addition to Curry, Moses Moody is also nearing a return. He has missed nine consecutive games with a sprained wrist and will also participate in “live action” drills in the coming days, with a re-evaluation scheduled for Tuesday after the team returns to the Bay Area.
On December 29, 2025, the Warriors defeated the Nets 120-107 in Brooklyn, with Curry contributing 27 points and 5 assists. The game recap from ESPN noted Jimmy Butler added 21 points for Golden State.
